An irritated thought of Doctor Who (one specific spoiler for tonight) )

Oh dear. That got rather long for a rant about one rather small issue. It does annoy me beyond words when the 'Who writers get lazy though because goddammit, they're writing for a BBC flagship show with decades of history, possibly one of the best writing jobs in television, and then they don't try. ARGH.

Also, I didn't really like tonight's episode overall. Pretty sure there were plot holes large enough to sink the Titanic in, even if I was being climbed over by two Yorkshire Terriers for most of the episode and it was hard to keep track. Sigh, Who. Why is it that you have to follow every good episode with a ridiculous one?

~

In real-life news, this has been a particularly stressful week and I'm very glad it's over. Suffice to say I was coming home on the train on Thursday trying not to cry and Googling "running away to Borneo to live with monkeys' on my phone as an actual feasible life plan. I hope next week is better.

I loved every second of Doctor Who tonight but I have just one spoiler to mention:

Doctor Who spoillleeeerrrrr )

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan are being so adorable on the Confidential. <3

Oh man, Doctor Who. I wish I hadn't just spent an hour of my life watching that; I could've spent that hour writing my own exit for David Tennant and even if I wrote it with both eyes closed and used my tongue to type, it would've made more sense than that episode.

Oh Tennant. That was such a massively crap episode to give you as a finale, even with everything John Simm could do to save it from inanity.

Disappointed. :-(
clo_again: (Tennant - Last of the Time Queens)
Things that amuse me abut fandom: I go searching for John Simm/David Tennant RPS and open various Google links in tabs to peruse. Having found a good archive (Human Nature), I forget I even had other tabs. So an hour later when I click on one by accident, I find myself staring at a page titled 'Porn Battle' and going "What? Why am I on this page? Did I Google this page? I should hit- ooo hey look, Labyrinth fic!"

Fandom. If not the greatest invention in the world, then it is at least my favourite. <3

(By the way, Exposure by versaphile is amazing Simm/Tennant and hotter than chilli powder. Mmmm. Internets, you and your rule 34 are made of win.)

edit: Other Things I Love Also: Neil Gaiman putting Tim Minchin youtube vids in his blogs and when they mention each other on Twitter. <3 I like it when two completely unrelated people that I like surprisingly know about and like each other. I guess it's kind of validating, in a way. But mostly it's sweet and makes me want to snuggle all of them.
clo_again: (Tennant - Last of the Time Queens)
The Doctor Who special of Never Mind the Buzzcocks lived up beautifully to my expectations. I laughed so hard, I choked on my tea. Oh Tennant, WHY ARE YOU GOING. I DEMAND THAT YOU STAY AND BE HILARIOUS WITH CATHERINE TATE FOREVER.

[livejournal.com profile] irradiatedsoup you have to see this. If you can't find it for dl, let me know and I will send you a DVD copy. It is brilliant and Bernard Cribbins is brilliant. Did I mention that it's brilliant? <3

<3<3<3 I am both excited and terrified for the last specials now. Oh Tennant. I will actually cry.
clo_again: (Top Gear - Oh Cock)
I've seen the ad for New 'Who The Waters of Mars three times now and it gets MORE BUGFUCK CREEPY EVERY TIME. I think it may actually be a cue for hiding-behind-the-sofa once again because, sheesh. Even the trailer gives me the heebie-jeebies. Thankfully there's brand new Top Gear on the same night to chill me out after. :D

Speaking of Top Gear, [livejournal.com profile] kindoftrouble bought me a wind-up version of Hamster's Dampervan as part of my birthday present. Last night I decided it was long past time for it to have a ceremonious launching and filled the bath with water. Only about six inches, so that the inevitable sinkage wouldn't involve me getting soaked to the shoulder fishing it out.

And the results were... )

As you can see, my life is filled with business! I'm trying to write NaNo and mostly failing due to my laziness combined with overtime at work (first time ever I have to do overtime and it's the first week in November. NOT. AMUSED. UNIVERSE. Working tomorrow for the sixth day in a row and it's just... give me a break. Seriously). Don't expect posts to increase much over November though because as much of a pain in the ass as NaNo is, I'm still writing a bit a day and working my up to it takes hours of flaffing around uselessly. Procrastination takes time and hard work! It'd be easier just to write the damn NaNo but try telling that to my brain. Sigh.

Am in [livejournal.com profile] acityofwonder's! I actually caught my bus and made it to Brisbane on my lonesome with no problems. Feel v. pleased with self. :D I have a very fluffy cat* sleeping at my feet, Good News Week downloading (for free! but very slowly) off iTunes and many, many shiny plans for the rest of the time I'm here. All is awesome.

* I wish to steal him. Sssshh. Don't tell Kellie! ;) Even though she's reading over my shoulder.

Also, in a week I'll only have one more morning left in Australia (until June anyway) before I fly to New Zealand. So really, that's over a third of the trip gone.

It feels like I only just got here. Sigh. Met a lovely guy from London on the bus up from Sydney who'd been travelling for a year and still had another year to go after three months home over the summer. I had envy. Going to try and meet up when I'm in London in June for a drink and continued envy. The people you meet backpacking are so, so awesome. Hopefully I'll meet some crazy LotR fans in NZ. I wish I had a slashy LotR t-shirt to wear so any slashers could pick me out and we could squee together. Hm. Or even just a "Still not King" one.

I forgot to say that while in Canberra with [livejournal.com profile] mayakitten, we saw a student with a bag covered in Doctor Who badges, including things like "VOTE SAXON", "BEWARE THE WEEPING ANGEL, love from the Doctor" and "I SURVIVED THE TIME WAR". I desperately wanted to pouncetackle her and declare my love for Australian Doctor Who fans for being awesome.

I also kind of wanted to steal her badges but searching has just thrown up this site so now my life is all good. I should actually check out getting them while I'm here in Oz because the postage is cheaper. Hm.

Tomorrow. Now I have an eighteen hour bus trip to sleep off while GNW downloads. :D I hope I can still iTunes them all when I'm back in the UK too.

So, earlier today I was idly skimming my flist when I hit on a rec from [livejournal.com profile] rionaleonhart. Even though it was in-progress, it had the summary A massively multifandom accidental epic following Sam Tyler (Life On Mars) and Jack Harkness (Doctor Who and Torchwood)on their misadventures, as they explore the galaxy, almost destroy some worlds, and barely save others which sounds pretty awesome if it could be made to work so, expecting something funny and lighthearted and not just a little cracky, I thought I'd check it out.

About four and a half hours later I looked up to realise the afternoon was over, at some point I'd relocated to my room to stop my mother talking to me while I was trying to read, my hand was over my mouth to stop myself making gleeful sounds out loud and I hadn't even read all of it. It is- awesome. Beyond words. The concept that sounds vaguely ridiculous? Isn't. Everyone's so in character, they go through crap, they fight, they crack jokes, they break time, get extremely drunk in bars much more authentically alien than 'Who or Torchwood manages to show and somehow Jack and Sam makes a really, really excellent team (regardless of how many timelines/planets/univeres they manage to break because that's by accident. Mostly). It hits so many fandoms, some of which I haven't even come across yet because I'm still reading; the FFVIII parts made me especially gleeful though. So:

Damaged People by [livejournal.com profile] draegonhawke. That's a link to the index of parts arranged into various characters' timelines (I started with Sam's because it's at the top but I suspect the sort-of-order here might be better). It's got its own community where the parts are posted at [livejournal.com profile] damageverse. I'm so excited by that long list of parts to-be-written because that hopefully means we'll be getting new bits and pieces and fics in the 'verse for a long while yet. It's one thing I'd say read, even if you don't like WiPs because it's so fun to read and each part/interlude works pretty well in itself.

Seriously, this is worth the time of your life to read and review, because it isn't getting nearly the love it deserves. Go. Fangirl the wonderful. Pass it on.
clo_again: (Spaced - omgyay!)
They're announcing the Eleventh Doctor in like, fifteen minutes. Or not, because they've actually given a whole thirty-five minutes of BBC One over to the Confidential where they'll announce it, leading me to suspect they'll make us wait until the last five minutes.

As much as I'm excited about this (I love the Tennant, I really do. I flailed for weeks when he was cast but now, there's only so much more emo!face I can take and I'm looking forward to all the shiny new storylines they can do with Eleven), I can't quite believe they're making this into such a huge thing. This is BBC One, home of seriousness and stiff upper lips, the main TV channel over here. It's no small thing to dedicate an entire half an hour to one announcement of a casting dcision.

THEY'RE NOW TALKING ABOUT IT ON BBC ONE NEWS. THE ENTIRE NATION IS GOING NUTS OVER THIS.

...Sometimes, I really really love being British.

(They just mentioned it AGAIN on BBC Wales news, though that's not so much of a surprise given the immensely possessive attitude the Welsh seem to have for Doctor Who.)

And in the last few minutes, I'm going to put out my vote for Paterson Joseph. Recently watching the Gaiman's commentary on Neverwhere, he said repeatedly "This man should be the Doctor" and I totally agree.

edit: APPARENTLY RICHARD HAMMOND WAS SUGGESTED. *sporfle*

It is not Paterson Joseph. *sadness* Apparently it is someone very young. My money is now on Matt Smith.

The Sun (you know, that oh-so-reliable source of world news) reports on the potential Doctor Who movie and David Tennant's involvement; "TV Biz has already told how BBC bosses are wooing the 37-year-old with a £1.5million contract.

And we can now reveal that the star has agreed to make a full fifth series in 2010 if the big screen role can be tagged on to the deal."

Intriguing. Of course, it also says "Yesterday, Davies told us he would love Catherine Zeta Jones to be the Doctor’s companion on the big screen." which not only makes me yell with incoherent outrage at my computer (as a Welsh person you know I am totally unbiased when I say I really despise CZJ) but also makes me roll my eyes and go yeah, whatevers Sun. Still. Even the cross-eyed monkeys they call sources can sometimes be on to something.

Anyway, read all the crazy here. Worth it for the terrible quality manip of The Tennant and TARDIS in front of the Hollywood sign.

~

I need pretty distractions like this today, because cramps are determined to kill me before lunchtime. I even brought a hot water bottle to work, currently wrapped in a towel behind me. This is ridiculous. I know I'm a temp but jesus, we still deserve sick pay for the days when we can't actually stand up straight. Ack.

Surface by [livejournal.com profile] seperis, PG Ten/Rose with spoilers through Journey's End. Short but poetic and beautiful and fixes a lot of the things I found wrong with Rose's ending was handled or rather, makes them okay.

I know I would happily rec everything [livejournal.com profile] seperis has written ever, but this really is beautiful and it's 'Who fic by her which makes me inordinately happy. Go, marvel at the pretty.

...

Eleven minutes now. C'mon. Or maybe I can leave in five...

I MAY ACTUALLY DIE WITH HAVING TO WAIT AN ENTIRE WEEK FOR THE FINAL EPISODE.

OH MY GOD.

OH MY GOD.

OH MY GOD.

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHTHATWASAWESOMEBEYONDWORDSFORTHEAWESOME. )

Now I have to go get my jeans out to dry and actually have some food before I waste away. The things I do for Doctor Who episodes... or rather don't do. Sigh.
clo_again: (Spaced - omgyay!)
I was going to do a post of "Things I Hope Happen/Don't Happen on Tonight's 'Who" and then I realised in the next half hour I have to shower, wash my favourite jeans for London, have some food because I was just busy reading Interworld to care that I was hungry earlier and then fill the remaining ten seconds with squee. So basically I'm just going to take whatever happens and be happy because Roseomg. I watched Secret Diaries of a Call Girl for you Billie Piper. Do not let me down by being anything less than awesome.

Things to do, 'Who to watch. Yay!
clo_again: (Maneki Neko - Year of the Cow)
Oh Andy, I really wanted you to beat The Lime Starburst. Do not use this an excuse to be crap at Wimbledon! At least you didn't give him a 6-1 set like certain players we shall not name, damn them.

Went to see the sibling today and while his Yorkshire Terrier is very adorable, I still prefer Disco the cat, who was very pleased to see me. Makes a change from Casper who regards the world with general disdain except for the part of the world that contains food. As much as I love him, I wish he was a bit more Disco-ish.

[livejournal.com profile] squishy_monkey has surprised us all by returning from the dead depths of Wales, so I'm off to meet up with everyone. Alas, Doctor Who will have to be postponed for another week but there looks to be a lack of Donna and lots of shouty-Tennant this week so I'm not in too much of a hurry. However, next week I will be glued immovably to the TV. :D

OMGOMGOMG.

TV tonight? Has made me a happy bunny. Beyond words.

Doctor Who was exactly as awesome as the supremely awesome trailer and then had sprinkles of fantasticness on top. I may implode waiting for next week. Am too hot and too-much-cider-on-top-of-no-food giddy to write anything coherent right now, other than omg that was more awesome than anything. Right up there with Blink and all the other superb episodes.

Am giddy with glee. Who! I love you so much when you are on top of your game, because you are truly fantastic. Now just don't screw up the second part as you have been known to do. Don't you dare.

Also I actually voted on I'd Do Anything for the first time. For the first time ever on any of these shows, I think (I might've voted for Lee last year but I don't think I ever got round to it). The lady who says "You have voted for Jessie!" has an Irish accent. It was very cute and vaguely hilarious.

Also, I hope Gwion is the Oliver if we do go to see the finished musical. I may have spent ten weeks laughing at his accent but he makes a really, really, really fantastic Oliver. I loved him singing with Jessie so much that I rewound it and watched it again. Aw.

On an unrelated note of happiness, it's finally far enough into summer for all the trees outside my window to be green and, my favourite, bright yellow. There's a dove sitting in the yellow one which is catching the last sun and is all lit up. My parents are going on holiday tomorrow morning and I'll have the house to myself for a whole week, which makes up for having to catch the bus every day. I actually don't hate work right now. I am a great big bubble of happiness.

Though it's entirely possible that it's the cider talking. Mmmm.

HAVE JUST SEEN THE FULL DOCTOR WHO TRAILER. OMG OMG OMG.

*flails*

edit: On a totally unrelated note since the 'Who box sets are still ridiculously expensive (I refuse to pay more than £40 for a thirteen episode series; in fact I tend to grudge paying more than £25 for twenty + episode series, so Who hasn't a hope no matter how much I love it) play.com has a pretty good sale on some of the DVDs right now. I've already bought the first season of Stargate SG-1 for £16.99 (I remember when it was still insanely expensive. I've liked this show for way too long) and was about to buy the second when I spotted the Buffy DVDs are going for £9.99 a series. Now I'm torn. I've wanted series three forever. But I've seen Buffy repeated way more than Stargate. Bah, decisions.

Firstly, happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] scoobydumblonde! Sorry I didn't say it yesterday; we got home late from Hay-on-Wye. Hope my package got there in time because I didn't post it until last Monday. I didn't forget! Hope you had a good day. :)

Secondly some squee with - I don't know if this is even a spoiler because surely tribesmen who speak only in grunts and live in remote mountain caves know this now but I'm sure someone will shout at me if I don't cut it - spoilers for the latest Doctor Who trailer )

I originally wanted to squee over Jessie still being in I'd Do Anything because I knew she'd be out if she was in the sing-off and I was so inanely happy when she wasn't but Doctor Who awesome distracted me. Still, yay! I'm sad Rachel went out though because I really think she would've made a better Nancy than Samantha. I think they might have problems if Samantha gets it, I really do. Just- little things. Like she smiles when they're singing the losers out at the end, always always smiles while everyone else cries. And she gets left out of hugs sometimes and she's smug and she shouts the songs sometimes, only they never say that to her. And I think I'm a little disillusioned about Barrowman by this point, because he does fawn over Samantha regardless of how good she's been that week, whereas Jessie has been consistently put down rather than supported. I'm glad votes backed me up with Samantha this week, finally, because I was starting to wonder if it was just me.

I've stolen the father's laptop for this (the only computer in the house that reliably connects to our pathetic internet right now; I am not amused) and he's making angry noises, so all I will say about Hay-on-Wye is that I bought twelve books in less than two days, we went to a fantastic circus and I loved it, even when the woman was driving me nuts. Have to go back again, if not next year then the year after. Preferably without a parent in tow and lots of money.

...I think that covers most things. Except, I really need a new laptop. One that doesn't hate our crappy internet. -_-
