Oh man. All my pissiness over the no-show of Strange Fate aside, I would love to win one of these. The FG trilogy are still right up there on my favourite book list over a decade after I first read them. They're some of the few kids books I read then that I can still read now without thinking they were better when I was too young and naive to understand them.

I wouldn't even wear the damn thing though (I can never get rings to fit unless I get them altered; I think I have freakishly-small fingers), I'd be too afraid of losing it. I'd still love one. Merchandising over childhood nostalgia objects really is the best (or frequently worst from the pov of my bank account. Like, I'd also really love a Julian action figure or an FG film which I would, of course, buy every special DVD edition of [I still think it'd work better as a film trilogy than a TV series] which I guess might bring the action figures if we were lucky. I'd love this rerelease to bring it to the attention of some Hollywood exec. Forbidden Game would be a fabulous film! Julian could take down a hundred Edward Cullens in any sort of Deathmatch. And he'd looked hilariously bored while doing it.)

Ah, books that I read as a kid and that're still awesome. ♥ There is nothing better.

~

Additional Unrelated Note: Why does no one buy anything off me on Amazon for months and then I sell two things in three days? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining! Any and all extra money that keeps me out of my overdraft a bit longer during Wimbledon is marvellous. It's just a bit bizarre. Maybe there is something going on unconsciously that tips people across the don't-buy/buy line all at once.

Just went to check my email and was puzzled to see an "your Amazon order has dispatched!" title because I hadn't ordered or preordered anything due for dispatch. Except reading on revealed that it was for the Hunger Games sequel. Which wasn't listed for release until SEPTEMBER 7TH. My expected delivery date was September 14th.

Amazon I love you. So so so much. No doubt it'll arrive on Tuesday when I'm stuck working the coffee shop (whole 'nother whinefest there which you'll probably get tomorrow or Sunday) until 1pm but dude, still. I AM RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED.

This makes up a little for the fact that I have cramps and want a shower but I stopped to watch Paul McDermott on David & Kim (already <3'd his Converse on Twitter; however, I really have no love for your morning tv hosts Aussies. You need the BCC, stat. I mean... talking about her nits? Eeeewwwwwwwwwwwww. Thankfully Paul seemed equally weirded out by it, so it's not just my Britishness kicking in) and while I oogled Paul McDermott's Converse-wearing, my father stole the bathroom. Even though they have an ensuite. If they aren't going to use the damn thing then I may as well have had their room and then I wouldn't have to tiptoe up an extra flight of stairs to avoid waking them every night. Faaaaaaail!

Early book dispatches and Mr McDermott do make up for a lot though. <3

edt: This would've been so much easier than trying to make my own Cool Wall on my pinboard at uni. I would of course not use the preprinted magnets and instead would be printing out MYRIAD people, things and TV shows to fill it with. I kind of want to make a sticky Cool Wall LJ post now which I can update every so often. Hm. What would my standard of Cool be though? Considering I don't really buy in to Jeremy's former Kristen Scott Thomas reaction method.

Okay, Amazon? My flist is going batshit. At first I thought it was a mistake, then I thought maybe it wasn't Amazon.co.uk, then as a last grasping of straws I thought maybe technical errors. Then [livejournal.com profile] seperis pointed out what happens when you search on Amazon.com for 'homosexuality'.

I- I have nothing to say. Except holy crap Amazon, way to go drive me back to play.com unless you sort this out. Or even just explain how you thought this would be a good idea and that no one would notice? Or just- explain something.

Honestly, I relied on Amazon to be the sensible one in the batshit crazy that can be LJ and the rest of the interwebs but apparently not.

In better news, my parents have my new card (hurrah!) which means once they send me the details I can book all my New Zealand hostels and my Uluru trip and it'll be sorted (double hurrah!). I was starting to twitch.

It also means I can buy DVDs online again but Amazon has apparently stuck their collective head up their ass, thereby saving me from my own temptation. Except play.com has all the Viva La Bam DVDs for the same price. Although Fobidden Planet is now out of stock of the Jareth figures again. -_- Dear card stealers, I hate you. I hope you drown in the Bog of Eternal Stench. Bah.

(Okay so I didn't really need two Jareth figures, except... I did. *woe*)

edit: Now this is an interesting theory. Hm. I think I'll wait and see how it pans out but it would certainly explain some of the more bizarre aspects of this whole thing.

Today I redesigned my IJ and walked to the post office to post a letter for the 'rentals. This is all I have done. Apart from have odd dreams all last night, which didn't really require much effort on my part.

I would feel lazy, except it's the first time in a couple of months that I've really had a few days off together in which I can do nothing. Tomorrow I'm meeting all the Waterstone's people for a 'goodbye temps' meal (and a chance to catch up on the gossip from this week, which I've been missing), so it's not like a totally wasted week. And I'm working next week! This is well-deserved downtime. (Sh. It works as an excuse.)

In the meantime, I've decided that watching Farscape is the order of the week and I'm four episodes into the first series. Long way to go yet but I'd forgotten how much I love it. It's so awesome. *hearts* How does everyone in the world not see the awesome of this show?

Speaking of awesome shows, something may be of interest to people with more money than me right now (but not much! Go amazon and their prices lately); Amazon have the complete DVD collection of Buffy for £71. It's kind of shockingly excellent and I wish I could afford even that... but my Rough Guides to Australia and New Zealand came today, which reminded me that I have to be good. No more buying of DVDs unless absolutely necessary for my sanity.

Apparently you can also get refunds for any price changes for things you bought in December. My Dark Materials books have actually gone up in price, so it's no use to me but it's a nifty feature for people kicking themselves for not waiting for the sales (so many of the things I got for Christmas are insanely cheaper now. My Squall figure's gone from £18.99 to £9.99 and I'm kicking myself). Worth looking in to.

And now it's Cheeseburger Thursday, so I'm off to make myself my cheeseburger. I'm considering making it Cheeseburger Wednesday for a couple of months to coincide with the new series of Torchwood. Mmmm. It might be hard to change a tradition that's gone on this long.

It suddenly dawned on me earlier that the hygienist said "See you in three months" as I was leaving. Yeah, like I'm going to walk willingly into that room ever again. My teeth still hurt.

But otherwise, good news everyone! Amazon have dispatched my Futurama already. They're saying it won't arrive until Monday anyway (not that I don't have all of Farscape still to watch or anything, I should really start that tonight) but at least it hasn't taken them a week to post it like it usually does. More worrying is that I got an email from them yesterday saying they still haven't received some books I returned as damaged back in December. And my wonderful mother who posted them for me didn't get any proof of postage. -_- They have another two weeks to get there, so we'll see. I will be less than amused if I end up paying for two copies of them; they're the smart black and white copies of His Dark Materials that I feel guilty for buying in the first place. I really don't need to pay more than I already did for them.

The same wonderful mother who Fails at proof of postage is telling me that she doesn't get Futurama. I didn't need to be told this, since she asks for clarification after every joke. Sometimes I wonder how out of touch the older generation really is.

I have a job for a week next week but I don't actually know where it is. Google maps is being decidedly unhelpful. Maybe I'll just wander 'round aimlessly until I recognise street names.

DEAR AMAZON, YOU HAVE HAD FARSCAPE IN STOCK FOR TWO DAYS. DISPATCH, DISPATCH YOU BASTARDS, SO I CAN STOP OBSESSIVELY CHECKING THE BLOODY SITE. NO LOVE FOR YOUR SLOWNESS, CLO.

Why am I still awake at 3am, even though I'm tired? Battlestar Galactica is stupidly addictive and just when I thought "right, last episode on this disc and then to bed", it gives me a freaking to be continued. Involving *Starbuck*, who I loved from hearsay even before I watched the damn show. So, naturally, a cup of tea was made and sod the time, I can sleep in tomorrow.

And I'm online because I was just checking the prices of the second season. Which, thank you for your Evil Temptations play.com, is now cheap while the first season is almost a tenner more expensive than I paid for it. Combining to make me feel smug and also to contemplate spending money I don't have right now on the second season because I foolishly forgot to add it to my Christmas list.

(Shush about my behindness with seasons. I had no Sky at university and parents who wouldn't know a series link if it jumped up and bit them. I'm just happy I don't have to wait a week for the next episode after that damned cliffhanger.)

C'mon Amazon. I need a distraction from cheap BSG second season goodness. You know you want to post my Farscape. Dooooooo ittttt.

So I preorder Hot Fuzz weeks in advance, at the 'expensive' Amazon price of £16.99 instead of play's £15.99 because they had pretty 'artcards' with it. They dispatch it and then drop the goddamn price to £15.98.

I *don't care* that £1 makes no difference in the great scheme of things. I don't care that it wouldn't pay my bus fare. I only care that Amazon are the sneakiest little bastards on the planet.

Giving you a card of FAIL here Amazon. Total fail.

In News Of My Life, hotel for Ireland is sorted (it was the one I thought it was and yes, I have a room and yes, it's easy to get a taxi to from the airport though I can't have an early check-in and there's going to be entertainment finding somewhere to get changed. At least I'll have a *bed* to sleep in, which is a definite plus.) Now I just need to find out which church I'm meant to be heading for. Somehow.

I really need to start filing things like invitations in an easy-to-find system. Really.

edit: Also while I'm on LJ (since I don't know how much time I'll have before Ireland on Wed. morning now): Advent Children was confusing but pretty. Wish they'd do a movie for FFVIII which I actually *understand the background* for. Plus it never gets old watching the universe annoy Squall for funsies.

I bought way too many clothes today but the 'rent paid for some. Yay! They're all very pretty clothes. Double yay! Got cool black shoes (finally) but wore them while shopping and they rub like a bitch. Sort-of-yay!

Left all my jackets in Lancaster because I thought it was too warm for them but now suspect I'll be wandering through the centre of Dublin in a corset top at 2pm with nothing to put over it. Will look mighty foolish. Back-up plan needed.

...Nope. That's all I got.

It makes me inordinately happy that the two top items on this list are both Hot Fuzz. The world is as it should be.

Amazon is horrible. A horrible horrible temptress. I just clicked over there to check how much Big Nothing was (shut up; having Miko to fangirl with is making me even more squeeful for Simon Pegg) and one of the sidebar messages was about Farscape series 1. With the big, bolded heading: You Know You Want It.

Yes I know I do. YOU DON'T HAVE TO POINT IT OUT. Gits.

Dear Amazon,

NO COOKIES FOR YOU.

No love,

Clo

Thought it might be nice to catch up with some of my favourite children's books so I hopped on over to Amazon marketplace (since it's rare to find my favourite children's books in print now which is terrible -- those books were what made me read as a kid, so why can't they be kept on offer to kids now? Just because there're countless superb children's books out in the last few years, it doesn't mean the old ones should be forgotten.) After spending more money than I meant to on most of The Animals of Farthing Wood series, checked out my recent orders on a whim before closing the window -- and had, in big, emergency red letters, beside each one, "payment revision needed."

Which reminded me that I hadn't updated my debit card info since it expired a few weeks ago. Figured fine, not a problem and went to add the new card info. Only for Amazon to make me do it over and over for each order and then sometimes twice because they were "working on revising a problem". Ten minutes later, it finally looks fine but now I'm paranoid there'll be all kinds of problems.

However, kind people providing me with Robin Hood have made my day one of shiny. Not even the galeforce winds outside (we're on the side of the country catching the 70-80mph gusts and I'm genuinely waiting for my window to blow in or the roof to fall off) can dampen the awesome that is people giving me stuff I missed *the morning after*. I love people sometimes.

Only, the question now is... do I watch it now? or do I save it to watch over dinner tonight?

...

Mmmmm.
