It's slightly breezy here in Cumbria right now. As in, the trees are only bending almost to the ground and not actually touching, and we're still considering heading out to go shoe shopping. Hah Katia! Takes more than that to intimidate almost-local Cumbrians!

(Er, don't take that as a challenge. As this precision drawn met office graphic ) shows, Cumbria is 99% out of the amber alert area (and considering north west England starts from the top of Cumbria southwards, including the entire NW in the QUITE LIKELY TO DIE category instead of SLIGHTLY LESS POTENTIAL FOR DEATH yellow area seems harsh, but waving a red flag at winds left over from a hurricane is probably a bad life plan).

Outside my window, the other side of the estuary has disappeared into the grey mist and the tide's right up to the prom, with the wind stirring up white-caps that look tiny from up here. I'm wondering if it's worth stopping for a photo op before heading onto shops or if I'd be blown off the prom and into the sea. Hhmm.

In wider news of my life, I'm getting closer to actually starting this new job that the HR guy's been delaying for weeks through sheer incompetence. I was heading into Lancaster on Friday to catch Fright Night again and the woman I'll be working for called me for a meeting, so I dropped in. She seems nice, and the job is all organising and hunting out files and appointments and absolutely minimal interaction with actual people, which is my sort of job. It's supposed to run for at least four months and probably longer so once I get started and settle in, that's the rest of this year sorted at least; I'm not sure about next year but I'm thinking maybe I should save seriously to do a Masters after all. I could go to Lancaster fom home but I've always wanted to do a Masters in Cardiff and oh, I don't know. I need to save the money first. I'm going back tomorrow again to meet the girl who's going to teach me how to do the job, so one thing at a time.

Re. Fright Night, I went to the cinema after the meeting expecting to find it showing at 1:15pm, only to find they'd changed the times the day before and now it's only showing at 22:00 (my last train back home leaves like 11ish, so anything after 9pm is useless to me).

I was surprised because it's only been out for a week. Sure, the cinema I saw it in wasn't anything like full but it wasn't just me in there either and it was the middle of the day on a Tuesday when the kids were back in school so it wasn't a terrible headcount. I'm pretty disappointed if it's not doing well enough to keep on at sensible times for more than a week but then, Lancaster's Vue has a habit of showing things very, very briefly (they have like seven screens split over two floors, so I have no clue why they do it). I'm waiting for the time changes this Thursday and hoping they show it at least once more that I can get to; otherwise Kendal arts centre cinema is showing the 3D version in a couple of weeks, so I'll try to get there. I really did want to see it again, argh.

I also checked out the posters in HMV in search of the Tennant-as-Peter Vincent one. They had a whole bunch of naked girls, a good choice of Captain Jacks, some funny cartoons and a couple of Harry Potters. Nothing else. -_- I have no idea where else I might pick up the Tennant poster, sigh. Even the internet is proving unhelpful.

Whoever came up with the concept of the kinkmeme was an unquestionable genius. Not only do they provide delicious fic but every so often you find the sentence "Bonus points for including a motorcycle!" in an otherwise innocuous prompt and after I'm done laughing, I'm reminded of just how much I love the internet.

In short, here is a Fright Night kinkmeme post. A fairish bit of fic across all pairings so far, some of it good, some of it average, a lot of it not finished but it's still active at five pages of comments and counting. I wish there were more fills for the Charley/Peter-form-a-kick-ass-vampire-hunting-team prompts though*.

Is it bad form to prompt for actor-RPF on a movie kinkmeme? There's no mention of it in the rules. Mmmm.

*I would watch that movie. Dear god, would I watch that movie. Someone call Hollywood!

SO. I SAW FRIGHT NIGHT TODAY.

In case you missed my earlier post, or you didn't have my Twitter flailing inflicted on you, or just in case you've not spoken to me at all in the last month - I was excited* about this movie. Because hello, David Tennant as a Las Vegas magician in a movie with vampires, and great looking trailers, and Tennant in eyeliner on the posters and reviews that sounded very promising if not gushing, and did I mention Tennant? Yeah.

*More like EXCITED. Or possibly VERY VERY EXCITED.

In case you're now intrigued but prefer to watch than read my flail, have the official trailer:

(There is more David Tennant in this movie than it would appear from that particular trailer. Trust me, he gets a fairish amount of screentime, enough that I wasn't disappointed. :D I like this trailer better. )

My rambling knee-jerk thoughts, with spoilers kept to a minimum (ie. I'm not going to spoil any of the jumpy bits that delighted me because I love watching other people jump when I know a shock!moment is coming, no specific ending/deaths spoilers, but some potentially spoilery character thoughts :D) )

For everyone who didn't read under the cut, I shall sum up; I loved Fright Night. Its amazingly fun. Y'all should go see it (even if you aren't that fond of David Tennant! There's plenty of other awesome in it!). I know I will be again.
clo_again: (Tennant - Last of the Time Queens)
So Fright Night is currently sponsoring SyFy's evening shows or something, which meant they aired the Fright Night trailer before tonight's episode of Eureka and mini-trails at the start and end of each ad break. I've been watching with half an eye for Colin Farrell (because hey, gratituous Colin-Farrell-being-a-hot-vampire is not to be taken for granted) but I was really looking out for Tennant.

There was a brief shot of him with A GIANT GUN OF AWESOME in the full trailer, then nothing through two ad breaks until MY SCREEN WAS GRACED WITH THIS JOY OF JOYS, THIS DELIGHT OF MY HEART, THIS THING FOR WHICH WORDS ARE NOT ADEQUATE:

a bit bigger under the cut )

They also had giant-sized posters of him up in the cinema today when I went to see Cowboys & Aliens (another post for another time when I am not more than ninety percent incoherent with flail). Can I have this movie now please? Now? NOW?

Perhaps I should rephrase. I WANT THIS DAMN MOVIE RIGHT NOW. TWO MORE WEEKS IS TOO LONG. DAMN YOUS ALL.

I have to go back and concentrate on Eureka now, oh god. I was enjoying the episode before and everything. I have left semi-naked David Tennant in eyeliner on pause though; I better not leave him there until morning. A. he might be burned into the screen (please deity-of-your-choice, I'll be good forever I promise) and B. he might scare my mother in the morning.

I want this movie. I don't care if it's the worst thing to splatter itself across screens since Kevin and Perry Go Large. I need a movie of The Tennant looking like that in my life right now.

<3<3<3<3

eta: Er, I will say that Rotten Tomatoes actually rates this Fright Night as 74% fresh and the reviews mostly all seem to say it's a lot of fun, so go and see it even if you're not one for gratituous Tennant eyeliner. There are vampires! And Tennant in eyeliner! Oh wait.

No really, I think we should all go and see. EVERYONE. Then they'll have no excuse not to hire him for every movie requiring him to wear eyeliner and be a ridiculous-yet-hot vampire hunter EVER AGAIN.
