So, Adrian Lester isn't coming back to the fourth series of Hustle. I heard a rumour, then when I heard the fourth series started in spring I dismissed it. Because there can't be Hustle without Mickey. It's-- it's like Red Dwarf without Rimmer. Stargate without Jack. Buffy without Giles--

-- no, wait. Hang on. All that happened and oh, let me see, were the shows as good? Simple -- subjective but simple -- answer, no.

And I don't even particularly like Mickey. Hell, he's very pretty and he's grown on me having seen the first series now but, even with my take-him-or-leave-him feelings, he's integral to the show regardless of whether you lean toward Danny or toward him. One of those things, like apples and oranges. It just *is*.

Not to mention I was enjoying the new slashy side of Mickey/Danny that's eluded me for the last two years. *wistful* Just when I find a good thing, it's gone.

edit: Have you ever idly started a reading a fic from a chapter somewhere in the middle without expecting it to be anything other than an average fic, only to get more and more confused until it abruptly dawns on you that they're all vampires?

Well. Maybe not. But. *Vampires*. I totally did not see that coming. *amused*

edit: Oh, ouch. I think I just discovered a new pet peeve because honestly, wank is a word that should never be used in a serious context. At least, not if any other word under the *sun* is available to use instead.

Ow. Brain, broken.

uhm, yeah, actually i have had that happen. Which is why I usually dig through and find the beginning of the fic just 'cause otherwise, I get all confuddled. :) Which fandom is this, dearie?

*grins* Still Hustle. I went on a quest for fic but only one's really measured up so far.I think I'm being remarkably picky with this pairing though, so that isn't exactly helping.

*Vampires*. I mean, WTF? Okay so, yes, we're both guilty of it but now I think about it, what is the fascination with making the most utterly ordinary people and fandoms vampiric? Why vampires?

*ponders*

It's like reading tennis slash now? ;-)

Vampires are evil (usually) and sexy and Dracula was always made out to be vaguely (or sometimes explicitly) erotic. But yeah, it throws me when I'm not warned that I'm reading vampire fic. At least that's my take on why people write vampires from normal people/fandoms.

You could say that. ;-) At least there's a nice backlog of tennis slash to go through now though. What I can find for Hustle seems pretty limited.

The evil sexy factor is definitely a plus. Mmmm. This time threw me completely; I was wondering why it was referring to past incarnations when suddenly they used 'dust' as in 'to dust someone' and it clicked. I can see the attraction it's just... *everyone* does it, like some sort of fanfic rite of passage. One of those bizarre multi-fandom similarities. :)

Give it time to catch on and I'm sure fanficcers will jump on it... though there are some fandoms that never really seem to catch on. :-/

evil sexy is just... well, sexy. :-D Yeah, sometimes, people don't really get that they should, on occasion, be specific about what they're writing. Sometimes subtle doesn't do it. But yeah, up until the vamp fic I wrote in tennis, I'd managed to escape vampirism in all of my many fandoms, but no matter which one I've been in, I've seen vampires.

The trouble is, the seasons are only six episodes each so it's easy to miss half or all of a season airing if you don't know about it and it's hard to keep the muses going for the rest of the year. *misses Buffy and Farscape's twenty+ episode seasons* Curses on the BBC.

It is one of the best kinds of sexy. :D It was otherwise a seemingly-normal fic up until that point. Someone should start a Writing Vampires 101 course. I think... yeah, I *think* tennis was my first vamps one. I don't think even Gamesmanship had vamps in, which is surprising when it had absolutely everything else.

Vamps, a fandom constant. Can't say I'm really complaining; when it's done well, it's *awesome*.

Ah, I see. that's crazy, only six episodes? *shakes head*

It really is. :-) Yeah, vampire writing 101. I love your vampires, even if you never did finish the Andy/Roger one. *pouts*

Exactly... though it makes me wonder, in fandoms where normality is vampires, do you write the vamps as normal humans? *ponders that* And written well, vamps are awesome. written badly, vampires are yuck.

I know. :( I think it's the norm for the BBC to give a new show only a six episode run to start (John Barrowman was surprised Torchwood got the go-ahead to have thirteen) but they usually push it up in later seasons. For some reason, Hustle's just stuck at six.

(... You know, thinking of a weird link between these two topics, Marc Warren -- my favourite guy from Hustle -- played Dracula in a BBC remake of it just this Christmas. *blinks at the coincidence* He was pretty evil and sexy doing it too.)

I have so much tennis slash unfinished. >_< So much *everything* unfinished. I need to steal some of your awesome motivation.

*giggles* That's a good point and probably true. *ponders* Someone out there must've definitely been reading fic in a fandom where vamps are the normal only to suddenly go "Hang on, they're humans in this! Ah-hah!"

Badly-written vamps = definite yuck. >_< I've just given up on the Hustle one in despair.

Okay, I always knew the BBC was weird (it is British after all) but that's just crazy talk! How is a person supposed to get involved in the series if there are only six episodes?

(Heee, that's a funny link... gotta love it when things like that happen)

Yes you do! -insert whines about Datta- *gives you motivation* Go to it! Get it done! (actually, all I do is tell myself I have to do stuff and then get it done. Eh.)

*cracks up* There so are people that are doing that.

*nods* *snuggles* Awww, I hope you find more fic to read in that fandom.

It is weird (though neh neh, at least we don't have great big gaps in the middle of our show runs ;) ). It is always over before I'm expecting it. Even eight episodes would make a difference.

(Definitely. ^_^ Coincidence makes life more interesting. Also, I totally need to rewatch it now for the evil sexy. Mmm.)

Yeah, my motivation really doesn't work that way. Case in point; I was meant to have read two Shakespeare plays by the end of today. As of yet, I haven't even picked up the book.

*cracks up too* Fandom = awesome.

*snuggles back* Me too. :( There's such a pretty pairing/threesome potential going to waste. Scandalous really.

Very strange. (Piffle I say. ;-)) Yeah... I dno't know. you all are just weird! ;-)

(Coincidence makes the world go 'round... I wanna watch!)

*grin* Girl, what am I gonna do with you? *pokes* Go read your plays! (Do you all have cliffs notes there?)

*nods* Fandoms are just too much fun sometimes.

*snuggles more* Poor Hel. *pets you*
