Went into Superman Returns fully expecting to be bored out of my skull for the next couple of hours -- and ended up enjoying every second. The whole first half I kept thinking "When am I supposed to start hating this then?"

So. A nice surprise of an afternoon. I'll even forgive Brandon Routh for not being Tom Welling. ;)

Wasn't Parker Posey the cutest thing ever?

I quite liked Brandon Routh too. :D

She really was. :D I loved her flailing all over Superman after the runaway car. Though Lex should really know better than to trust his women by now. ;)

I thought I'd hate him and I didn't at *all*. He did a great job. The whole thing was just so much better than I was expecting. :D Good ol' Bryan Singer.

I enjoyed the film, even though Superman is one of those comic book heroes that just bugs me. I like 'em with lots of flaws. See Gambit and Batman :p

Yeah, usually I hate Superman because he's so annoyingly *perfect*. Give me angsty-and-tortured Batman anyday. But, I think that all contributed to me expecting to despise the very existence of this film... only, it was done kind of well. It made me like Superman and that takes some doing. :)

Haha! Excellent! Christine was quite wrong to tell everyone not to go and see it. I may try and provoke some kind of argument the next time you two are in the same room.

Don't you dare. :p Besides, you know you'd only get caught in the middle and slapped from both sides again. ;)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You can't like it!!! It was disastrous, an abomination to cinemas. It's caused disease in screens across the world. I was bored out of my mind and thought it was the soppiest piece of rubbish I've ever seen. Well other than Deep Impact. And that one about the postman. Maybe I just don't have a heart so can't enjoy the 'look it's my son' bits. I don't know. I found it dull.

Honestly, I thought it was done very well. They could've cut down a few things slightly, Lex was *far* too giddy and despite doing her best, Kate Bosworth just wasn't Lois Lane but they kept fairly faithful to the mythos, they didn't run rampant over Smallville, Brandon Routh hit the exact mix of quietly-smart-dork for Clark and they didn't overplay the son thing too much. I adored the moment when he went to open the door only to have to yanked open before he could because you just don't *know* if he could've done it and far too many films now don't leave anything up to viewer interpretation. Like the scene in the hospital; it could be seen as the kid's super-hearing let him hear her but then, you don't know for certain. And the *cannibal dog* and Lex cleaning his teeth and... I honestly, seriously loved it from start to finish. Maybe because my expectations were so low to start with so the only way was up but I think Bryan Singer is a smart man who knows his superheroes.

You don't have to like it. I still think Kevin and Perry Go Large is the biggest heap of shite to ever see the light of day but other people liked it. *shrugs* Plus, I tend to be biased toward superhero movies. I just love them.

Fair enough. I suppose it doesn't help that it's not the sort of film I would generally enjoy anyway. It took me long enough to go and see Batman and then I loved it, so maybe I was expecting to love this too.
