Feb. 23rd, 2009 01:38 amIf Hugh Jackman hosts the Oscars forever, I will watch forever.
Seriously, I wish to marry this man immediately. And also whoever came up with the idea of this stage where he can just step off to harrass all the A-list stars which he is doing fabulously.
I'm so looking forward to the next four hours with Hugh Jackman. :DDDD
edit: Okay, so I'll admit that I haven't seen Slumdog Millionnaire so I'm not qualified to comment on how good it may be. It could have the most amazing sound and music in the world.
But I'm really bitter that Wall-e didn't win any of the sound or music Oscars (they're showing Best Song right now and love the end-credits song from Wall-e passionately but I have no faith that it'll win). Wall-e is a film that's told so much through sound rather than speech, told beautifully and it's not just a case of them having "recreated" the sounds of a culture or place; they've actually created the sounds of the past and the future and thought about what sounds things that don't even exist would make. Wall-e is a character that needs to win the audience over with sound because he doesn't even speak for such a long time at the beginning; I seriously doubt Slumdog had to rely so much on speech-free audience persuasion.
Oh oh look, Slumdog Millionnaire won for the song that I can't even remember after watching it a twenty seconds ago. I cry at Wall-e's credits *everytime*. The song tells a story, it illustrates the film, and Wall-e really deserves more recognition than it's had tonight for it's outstanding sound and music.
I hope Slumdog doesn't win Best Picture now. Thanks Academy, for making me hate a film I haven't even seen.
On a side note, I remember watching the Oscars a few years back during the LotR years and there being five staggering beautiful songs from FotR, Cold Mountain etc. I couldn't decide which I wanted to win, they were all so incredible. How come this year we had one cute little heartfelt song from Wall- and two from Slumdog? What happened to all those songs that break your heart and you can't stop playing on repeat?
Edit: But on a totally unbitter note, I'm staggered by how many people I just recognised in that tribute to people from the movie industry who died last year. Half of them I didn't even know'd died.
I- I really am stunned. Usually I recognise maybe one or two names. Um. Yeah.
