clo_again: (Tim Minchin - Yay!)
I'm watching Jonathan Ross for the first time in ages because he has Tim Minchin on (naturally, he's the last guest because he's the guest I want to see but I'm not totally averse to watching Boy George and that girl from Gavin and Stacy because I still like to hear a Welsh accent every now and then). On a Minchin note, Wikipedia says his Buzzcocks ep is showing on November 12th. I am excited because there's that and then four days after I go to London for a WEEK OF AWESOME, INCLUDING TENNIS AND JOHN BARROWMAN and then it's back for a bit of a manic Dickensian Festival weekend here in our little backwater, before back to London and then Cardiff AND JOHN BARROWMAN and then London. AND THEN IT'S CHRISTMAS. OH MY GOD.

So basically that Buzzcocks ep kickstarts my epic run to Xmas this year. THANKS TIM MINCHIN. :DDDD

Speaking of Christmas, I was thinking today about all the stuff I need to buy and make and send before December and I started twitching. I have a lot to do this year but after the next couple of weeks life is going to be batshitso I really should get on that. Especially if the postal strikes delay stuff from Amazon any more; they're striking Thursday, Friday and Saturday next week too and as much as I appreciate them avoiding my birthday, I'm still not amused. Sort it out Royal Mail! The majority of my DVDs and books come via the post these days but I'm still too poor to pay for the extra special Amazon delivery. Sigh.

(Oh Jonathan's talking about Wales as if it's a separate country from England. No idea why but I love it when people do that. TECHNICALLY I'M AN IMMIGRANT. :DD)

Oh my god this woman's like sherbert dropped into a can of Sprite. She's insane but oddly adorable. It's hilarious.

Other things that I was thinking about today; the hotel we've booked for Cardiff. I booked it and I was thinking about the price and going "Hm, that was cheap. Wait, did I just book it for one person? THAT'S TOO CHEAP FOR TWO PEOPLE. OH MY GOD I HAVE TO TEXT [livejournal.com profile] kindoftrouble. AND CALL THE HOTEL. WHERE'S MY EMAIL. OH GOD."

And then I remembered the price was for the room per night, not per person. I even put [livejournal.com profile] kindoftrouble's name in as the second guest. Possibly I need a holiday.

Okay I'm fed up of crazy sherbert-fizzy-pop girl now. Bring on the Minchin! (Seriously, Boy George got like two-thirds of the program. I kind of get it but I also kind of hate them for having all the interesting people on IN THE SAME WEEK. They've had crap people on for ages! Damn yous!)

...Except he's singing. All is forgiven!

edit: Tim Minchin and Jamie Cullum sang an adorable piano duet together. Y'all are SO getting Youtubed the moment it goes up because seriously. Your lives need this awesome.

ON A TOTALLY DIFFERENT NOTE. I'm giving up on In Treatment. Officially. I'll keep watching Sophie's episodes on Wednesdays because she's the only 'patient' who doesn't make me want to reach for the chainsaw of natural selection. And that includes the therapist. I'm sad because it started out so well but half an hour a night five days a week is really pushing what I'm willing to dedicate to a show when I find the majority of the characters incredibly irritating. Sigh. It started out so well.
clo_again: (Stark/Carter - Mutual... something)
I still owe a quote and something random. Oh dear. I'll get right on that tomorrow.

Mostly posting to say what I've been rambling about on Twitter for two days, which is that I've watched three episodes of In Treatment and the pilot of Stargate: Universe. And I approve!

In Treatment is interesting and I love the format of half an hour a night. Any longer would be too much but it definitely helps not to have an ad break. Can't imagine they got away with showing it ad-free in America though; I don't know if I'd be enjoying it as much if I had to go away for a few minutes in the middle and pick up the thread after. After the first night I thought I wouldn't like the rest of the week's people as much but tonight was my favourite yet and apparently his therapy sessions on Fridays are the highlight of the week. So, total A+.

Stargate: Universe? When they get past the fact that they have Robert Carlyle: Srs Actorz in scenes, it's so awesome. The premise is good, the sets are amazing, the characters- well mainly Eli (who is MADE OF WIN. I adore him already; he's like a geek but he knows he is and is totally willing to take the piss while being geeky over geek-worthy things) and Ross stand out right now but everyone else has the basis there to be interesting. Kind of wish I liked the girls more - Chloe isn't really growing on me and Tamara's not been given enough fleshing-out for me to really form an opinion yet, though there's totally hints that they're going to Go There in her backstory which is good. I guess I'm just a bit disappointed that so far we've only got the 'Daddy's Girl' and the 'Tough Military Chick'. I miss Sam being all smart and yet cheerfully-bubbly. I never thought I'd miss Sam's technobabble. Or Elizabeth being "Seriously John? You want to do what now? Seriously? No."

So yes, a TOTAL YAY with an addendum of; plz to be making the girls as interesting as the boys. (That said, Eli = made of fabulousness. <3)

Plus I shrieked like a little girl at Sam, Daniel and Jack's cameos, after I got over the fact that Richard Dean Anderson has become ROUND. For ten years he was all angles and quirky eyebrows and now he's chubby. It's so weird. In the first scene I genuinely didn't believe it was him, despite the snark, because all I could see under the sunglasses and hat was big hamster-cheeks. I was amused for a while and then decided to explain it in canon, Sam must be a secretly amazing cook. I suppose she can do Skience and cooking is kind of Skience. She'd totally approach a roast dinner like an equation and Daniel would sit to one side and grin while Jack just boggled and stole potatoes to mess up her math. Teal'c would be sitting in front of the oven watching the meat cook and silently contemplating buying shares in an oven-making place (who sells ovens in the US anyway?) and setting up a import ring to Tulac.

I'm so happy to have the Stargate'verse bck again. I've had a Stargate to watch for over a decade. It was weird when it wasn't there.

~

My Stargate glee was celebrated tonight when Michael Shanks showed up unexpectedly in the episode of Eureka I was watching. Surprise!Michael Shanks is the best kind of Michael Shanks. Surprise!Michael Shanks who has Backstory and Angsty Flirtatious Chemistry with Ed Quinn? Is better than the best kind of Michael Shanks. Sometimes it confuses me that this fandom doesn't have a lot more fic. I mean, there's plenty of fic? But not anything like the kind of fic that Merlin or Atlantis has generated, which is a bit odd considering Eureka's about four years old now and has a whole bunch of pretty people in it. I'd like some epic-length Srs Bznis fic please. Trying to write some but the day I actually finish something Srs Bznis and epic is probably the day the world ends.

I really have to go to bed now. Work for the next two days and then Edinburgh and I think I'm working Monday (ugh) so sleep would be good. I wish I didn't feel like I've totally wasted the last two days though, apart from the excellent TV watchage. -_-
