Okay, so the default setting of Lancaster is 'windy'. Outfits are designed on the basis of 'how well will this withstand wind?', umbrellas are a no-no and I generally regard straightening my hair before going to class as utterly pointless, since it'll inevitably be a knotted heap of frizz by the end of the ten minute walk.

Now that's quite clear -- I have never seen it this windy. For the first time I looked at the severe weather warnings and think they're actually *underestimating* the sheer badness. That said, it seems to be dying off a little now but when I walked up to my seminar earlier, it was in zig-zags because the gusts of wind were so strong. Opening the door to our block, it was literally ripped out my hand and I did a frantic-diving-stumbling motion to catch it before it slammed into the glass behind it. I was watching the buildings I walked past warily in case slates came off and I ran past the one with a TV aerial on the corner because it was rocking something awful (the aerial, not the building. It isn't *quite* that bad.)

And to think I laughed at my mother last night when she told me not to walk under any tall trees. It's probably being this awful just so it can point back at me and go "HAH HAH, TEACH YOU TO LAUGH AT THE WEATHER."

Aside from the sheer badness of the weather, went to the climbing induction last night and it was fun. Only it's not climbing, it's bouldering (bouldeering?) which is the one where you do it without any safety ropes. Ahem. The floor is a thick, squishy mat though so it's not too bad if you fall off. Just mildly terrifying when you're halfway up and you can't find a foothold and halfway up is still *pretty damn high* so you don't want to let go. A decided pretty much at the moment they said "without any ropes" that it wasn't for her but I had fun. I can go any time I want now I've done the induction and it's cheaper than the pool even, so I'm thinking I'll try it again. Maybe after I've done a few weeks of yoga to bendy myself up a bit though because I'm aching a little today.

Yes, we signed up for yoga too. Nine weeks, starting Monday at 4pm. Me and A, plus Miko and K have shown a definite interest so there might be a group of us. Glad I'm finally doing something about wanting to try it at last, regardless of how stiff I'll be for my 9:30am seminar the next day. I'm just glad I'm finally having a term of doing stuff and being useful after so long sitting around saying I'll "do this soon".

And in keeping with the 'doing stuff' mood, going to read Enduring Love for Creative Writing now. Speaking of which, we had Saleel for our seminar today. He isn't as good at it as George, but he's one of the loveliest people ever, which more than makes up for it. I love it when tutors are genuinely awesome people. It makes working for them so much easier.

You know, I think I need to make some 'dumb weather' icons sometime soon. They'd get a lot of use.
