Oh dear. I think I've ruined series three of Eureka for myself.

I knew Stark "dies" in series three. I freaking watched the episode because I've been watching the third series on Sky on-and-off while I'm catching up on series one (if you're reading this, you probably already know that it's not a show which demands utter loyalty to episode or even series order to be watchable). A few weeks back I watched That Episode with my mother and the whole way through I was preoccupied trying to explain Eureka to her, and I handwaved off the looming death with "They won't kill him! He's like a main character and extremely pretty, pfft" (hahahaha and I claim Daniel Jackson as one of my favourite characters, WILL I NEVER LEARN).

Then he disintegrated and I went "Oh. Well that's a bummer; he was extremely pretty. Oh well! You know this show is pretty good. I should see how much the first series boxset is."

And it was fine! I wasn't bothered. I hadn't watched enough of the show to be attached to any characters except Jack and Zoe, so losing Nathan Stark was just a matter of losing a pretty face. Totally unbummed.

Then I watched half the first series. Then I spent a whole day reading Jack/Nathan slash. Then I was totally, utterly bummed.

This is sci-fi though (or 'syfy', as apparently the SciFi channel have renamed themselves? What. The. Hell. Just, no) and he didn't die, he sacrificed himself in some machine, saving the space-time continuum. His last words before he 'disintegrated' were "I'll see you around Jack." And this is SCIFI. And this is a show that brought back a character (in clone form) in series three who'd been unequivocally killed off in series one. So you know, if the actor wants to come back? Door is wiiiiiddee open. (Dear Ed Quinn, I know you're off being a vampire on True Blood which is fabulous and now I have ANOTHER reason I should be watching that show, but you did get on hilariously well with Jack in Eureka. Maybe next series? Please?)

Just, I have about another series and a half to watch of Jack/Nathan deliciousness. That should be a lot but it doesn't feel like it. Dammit. Why did I have to decide to like this character? WHY DO THEY ALWAYS KILL THE PRETTY ONES.

~

I have to say, at this moment I'm watching the third series episode 'You Don't Know Jack' which involves the characters storing their favourite memory in little glass globes, so it's basically a clip show but with a few shiny new memories thrown in. And right now, one of the characters has hacked it so they're Zorro fighting STARK. Dressed in EXTREMELY TIGHT-FITTING TROUSERS AND A BILLOWY LACED-UP SHIRT.

Dear Universe, THANK YOU. A THOUSAND TIMES THANK YOU. I am so keeping this ep on the Skybox until I buy the DVDs.

Also, wanted to point out that if you've been intrigued by my rambling love for this adorable little quirky show (it's definitely worth watching; if Grey's Anatomy is my catharsis then Eureka is my happy place, full of giggles and fantastic characters and the world almost ending every week), right now play.com has the first series for £5.99 which is GIVING it away. Seriously. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Right. Back to Stark in deliciously tight trousers...

(I still need to make Eureka icons, dammit.)

Edit: Oh and I know I mentioned recs yesterday, but I was doing my tried-'n-tested method of reccing which is to put them in my memories (related topic; I also found an epic Star Trek XI recs post last week which is memorised under Fic Recs: Star Trek XI and is definitely worth a look-through). Everything on that list is worth a read. I don't rec uncanon character death except in exceptional circumstances (if I mention Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left to Lose here again, I'm going to have to buy shares in it or something) and sorry, it is pretty much all Jack/Nathan because I have a one-track mind.

I'm rather intrigued by this fandom though, in that at least half (maybe slightly more?) of the fics I came across yesterday were 'established relationship'. Now if a relationship isn't canon and especially if it's slash while the character is protrayed as canonically heterosexual, I'm not such a big fan of having something already established because really, it just seems... a bit lazy? It also throws me because I love the how of getting characters together in slash, all the subtly different ways slashers can finagle it into happening believably. But everything in my memories is worth reading. There were probably a couple more worth a read but I was too harsh on the 'established relationship' aspect to memory them, but they're easy enough to find anyway.

I'm a little sad at how few recs a lot of my fandoms have. Anyone has any fic recs for me, ever, don't hesitate to point them out! I tend to read mostly via recs, so more is always awesome.

Okay. NOW back to Stark in deliciously tight trousers...
