Okay so it is essentially just a shop with a tiny 'museum' attached but they've actually designed it to look like a cave, with rocky walls and looming orcs and so much awesome. It's like the parts of Forbidden Planet that I really love all condensed into one room, with emphasis on Lord of the Rings (they were selling Doctor Who and Narnia collectables too, including a really awesome Fourth Doctor and Davros statue that I oogled for ten minutes wistfully). They also had a few Labyrinth things and I picked up a talking Ludo who is adorable. I talked myself out of buying a soft version of one of the Doorknockers, though it was close.

Close but I decided against it because in the end I bought this.

YES I KNOW. I AM BACKPACKING AND HAVE NO MONEY. BUT BUT BUT. It was only $149 which is £60. Admittedly I wanted them to send it home so that was £35 shipping on top of that but still, that's a pretty expensive awesome souvenir. I do love Eowyn. A Legolas statue would've been the ultimate in souvenirs but they didn't have any except in the display of statues that're out of stock everywhere now. I'm pretty damn excited. :D I was up for spending $300 or less on a One Ring replica, so this is just replacing that.

Now I have to tell my parents too watch out for a large box arriving in about ten days. Uh. Yeah, that'll go down well...

ALSO ALSO ALSO. We went up Mt Victoria to some of the very first filming locations. I know the picture below is lacking a tree, a Ringwraith and four hobbits but...

I still pretty much geeked out. I only wish there'd been four of us so we could've crammed in and pretended to be the hobbits. NEXT TIME. :D

The guy also took me (there was just me on the tour which was odd. He said there were eight people yesterday! It was kinda nice though after my initial o_O) past an old building called Capital Court that Peter Jackson's bought and is planning to turn it into a small cinema. If I come back in a few years? So going there. We also had a look at the studios (from the outside, alas) and I generally did lots of omgsocool reactions. There's only so many superbly awesome things you can see (as a LotR fan; I imagine it'd be pretty dull if you didn't like the movies) before you run out of omgawesome things to say. But! Awesome!

All in all, I've had the geekiest LotR day. It's been wonderful. Now I'm wondering if I have the energy to head back to the Te Papa museum for another look before I go to The Green Parrot for dinner (soley because it's where Viggo Mortenson liked to eat during filming. LORD OF THE RINGS DAY. IT MUST BE DONE.)

I am such a nerd. And it's so awesome. Eeeeeeeee. :DDDDD

OMG SO FUCKING AWESOME.
I would give my left arm to go there, it sounds amazing.
Also, talking Ludo? Too epic for words.
