Australia: Day Five, Kangaroos Spotted: 0 (so far...)

Trying to organise my New Zealand dates so I can definitely call and pay for my Queenstown hostel and horse-riding (they emailed back to confirm! I might've flailed a bit lot) and have found both good news and bad news. Good news is I've worked out why it was telling me I had to take two days for a trip the website said could be done in one and it means I get to spend extra time in Whitianga which I was sad about missing when I couldn't work the buses around it. Bad news is that the extra time in Whitianga means no extra time in Lake Taupo which looked really pretty. *wistful* I did think of more reshuffling but this way I get the extra day in Rotorua too so I can look into the Hobbiton trip, and of course the main point of the whole trip is the horse-riding by Queenstown which is all-but-paid-for anyway.

It was always going to be a whistle-stop tour of NZ and at least I'm hitting all the stuff I really want to see. And at least now I can start booking some hostels other than the ones for when I arrive/leave; I was starting to wonder if I'd end up sleeping on the bus.

I still haven't booked my Uluru trip. I really should get on that...

Few other things! I couldn't find my address book before I left so everyone who wants a postcard, especially scoobydumblonde, dukedee, hill2k etc, can you email me your addresses at cloudymagicjh at googlemail dot com? And also acityofwonder (*shame* I know I should know yours now, the amount of times I've written it) and irradiatedsoup, can I have yours to put on the itinerary I should be emailing to my parents *cough*whenit'swritten*cough*?

I think that's everything. Hm. Australia is good so far! The very pretty houses are balanced by the ridiculously expensive books (like £10-12 for a normal paperback and no native Amazon; I had to sit down and drink something caffinated for the shock). Not that it'll stop me buying Bloodhound or The Demon's Lexicon when they come out, ...I'll just probably read them more slowly.

Heh, I keep thinking "Oh it's ages away!" but I suspect it'll roll around faster than I expect and I'll be left going "...Um. Ooops!" NZ's hostels shouldn't take too much booking now I have my dates though and I know exactly what to book for Uluru, I just need to do it. I'll do it before NZ. Probably.

Got it! I'll have to pick up a bunch of postcards and write them on the bus on the way to Canberra. :)

I love Australia, definitely. The buildings are gorgeous (my camera's charging ready to take lots of pictures!), even just the shops and stuff that in the UK would be functional but dull. Australian trees look like I've always thought trees should look. Everyone in shops has said lovely things about my accent and recommended stuff I should see. I can't recommend Australia enough (expensive books aside!)

That's awesome. Someday, I will be able to afford it... and I'll try to avoid buying books while there. ;-) I hope it really is a great trip for you, all around. You deserve it.

The lovely Japanese-Australian lady I sat next to on the Dubai-Melbourne leg of my flight was from Canberra and she recommended some roo-spotting spots. *thoughtful* I think there was a hill or some different hills... I was very sleep-deprived though. ;) Don't worry! I'm sure I'll see 'roos at some point.
