Having just realised I've spent the last half an hour searching for how much whores charged in the 18th century, I've decided writing is quite possibly one of the weirdest professions around. o_O

In other news, I'm heading York-wards tomorrow, so I won't be back until Friday night. *sighs* Don't do anything momentous while I'm gone because I'll kick myself for missing it.

See you all Friday night. Love, peace and jelly babies!

Google! Google! Google!

Don't ever say I never encouraged you! ;)

*giggles* Google gave me lists of links to a ton of poetry and literature and play reviews about whores. AskJeeves gave me a list of pornography sites! I did find a few articles but most of them seem pretty useless. *sighs* I think I've found a lost cause here.

I could always ask my Classics teacher. She'd probably know something weird and useless like that. ^__^ Though explaining *why* I want to know could be interesting....

Footnotes to the rescue!

32. In the 1880s, the standard charge for a child virgin was five pounds (Harrison 1977, p. 226). However, this may be one of the few areas where deflationary pricing operated as a long-term trend:
Fanny Hill was offered 150 guineas for her virginity (Cleland 1749/1964, p. 27). Prices charged for normal transactions in 18th century brothels were usually much less than one pound (du Sorbier 1982).

I'm suddenly bemused by the fact I wanted to find this out so much. ^__^

*bursts out into major fits of giggles*

Oh! I JUST found that article and was in the process of letting you know! Good old footnotes - where would we be without them? Hmm...maybe throwing mudpies at Arwen? :D

Hmmmm.. I'm *fairly* sure we'll be throwing mudpies at Arwen anyway. *grins* Having recently re-watched TTT, realised she is in fact, demonic evil elf under guise of prancy, useless elf. *readies mudpie* Aim.... FIRE!

I love footnotes. So often you can skip reading something college and answer questions from the footnotes. Makes ours lives so much easier. ^__^

See - persistence always works! ^____^

*giggles* Yes, she'd look at you quite strangely and wonder what kind of world her students are now living in!
