My hamster seems set on ramming his way through everything in the room. I haven't pointed out yet that his ball is plastic and the table leg he's beating it against is wood, because he's never seemed to listen before. Barnabas you are cute but quite marvellously stupid.

I was going to catch up on LJ last night. Um. I was. Then I fell asleep at half eight and woke up at 4am flailing over how I hadn't done anything, like exercise the stir-crazy hamster or watch Merlin or anything, so that's why I'm sitting on my sofa at 4:30am watching the rodent bounce off the walls. Also, watching Merlin which is now officially Gayest Show Ever, what with Merlin and Lancelot companionably wandering down from Merlin's very small room together sleep-rumpled and hung over while Arthur glowers at Merlin from the edges of the episode, clearly having wanted to steal Merlin's new boyfriend after the party but failing, dismally. And then getting over himself enough to fight for Lancelot to stay. It's so very, very easy to tweak this episode into a glorious slashy fanfic. But then, isn't it every week?

I laughed at all the Lancelot/Gwen. I KNOW IT WAS CHEESY BUT I HAD GLEE BECAUSE I AM A SAP OKAY. I love that this show can laugh at its own legend, even in a terribly corny way.

I know this show is pretty terrible. I do. Even though they're supposed to have an ongoing plot-arc, no one mentioned that a convenient creature of magic might've been sent by Niamh this week; it's like they just forgot her. And there was way too much bad fighting versus CGI (the poor guy who plays Arthur; he must feel like a total prat every week flailing his sword helplessly at mid-air or a tennis ball on a string). Morgana was once again wasted as a character (is she going to be evil? Exposed as a witch? Why wasn't she there fighting for the griffin early in the episode? It would've been interesting, to have someone advocate the rights of the magical creatures. Woe.) And I have to admit, I thought it was going to be Lancelot's griffin and he'd been working with it to put on a show just to get admitted to Camelot, which would've had interesting Merlin/Dragon implications and would've proved Lancelot was sneaky, because Lancelot is always sneaky. But no. I'm glad they made him unspeakably awesome rather than evil though, because I've always been rather fond of Lancelot and it's kind of sad that he's usually the villain when isn't it Arthur who was going to burn Guinevere at the stake? It's just, if Lancelot is the awesome, noble, fabulous one? Galahad won't even get his name in the credits.

Part of me desperately wants Arthur to discover Merlin as a wizard (baby!wizard? Warlock?) and after Inner Conflict, help conceal it from Uther. I think there needs to be more of a give-and-take between the two of them; Arthur recognising that Merlin has something powerful that could help would make for more interesting fights between them at least. But I guess they have to leave somewhere for the second series to go; there's enough fun to be had with Arthur not knowing.

So, is there any fic for this show out there? Slash, gen, whatever. Preferably something not written by a tweenie with no grasp of basic grammar.

And now, I'm going back to bed. For like, two hours. This whole 4am thing made sense at the time but now I'm not so sure.

The weekend was full of awesome by the way. Yeah, that was actually what I meant to post about but, um. Tomorrow. Dylan Moran in person is fantastic.
