Oh Roger, I'm so proud of you for coming back those two sets. I'm so proud of you for pushing it to that last point and never giving up. And I'm sad that you had to lose, because neither of you deserved to lose after a match like that but you are every bit as wonderful, every bit as brilliant, as you were when I sat where I am now four years ago and thought I could learn to love this odd-looking Swiss guy with a ponytail, who played tennis like he was dancing.

I've sat here since two pm this afternoon, a gibbering, tearful wreck on every point and it was worth every minute. I'm so happy I chose you to fangirl over four years ago Roger. There are many more things to take away from today but if nothing else, take the fact that we're proud of you.

he was amazing, really. no shame to lose in a match like that. it reminds me of his AO semifinal in '05, against marat (he was wearing white too!), where it was painful yet beautiful at the same time (comfort!fic *nudgenudgewinkwink*).

i hate it when he loses because i always feel really bad for him, which i'm not used to doing.

I could learn to love this odd-looking Swiss guy with a ponytail, who played tennis like he was dancing.

and perfect description, that. i remember tennis at that time, when the top three of amazingness was him, andy and juanqui, and gosh, i really miss it. *nostalgic*

I miss Andy, Juanqui and Roger being at the top. I wish for 2003 a lot, where tennis was interesting and unpredictable and fun.

when they were all clueless and young and juanqui had bad skin, roger had the ponytail and andy had more of his old smarm. they were the three kings! argh. that was the year i fell for tennis as well.

And they were all adorable and fighing to be the best they could be. I didn't like Roger back then, he'd beaten Andy in the Wimbledon semis and that was unforgivable at the time. But Andy with his passion and attitude and Juanqui in all his cuteness were awesome. I'd fallen before that but it was the year that got me hooked, when it was suprising and fun to watch. I loved 2004 as well, though Roger was really dominant it was still so fun.

this year not so much.

omg i cried after he beat andy in the semis! then i promptly wrote andy/juanqui fic after (or was this '04? lol). i used to think roger was really, really evil too, haha.

i'm really glad about novak, that's why this year hasn't been as abd for me, but i do miss the old days, when the big rivalry was federer-roddick, not federer-nadal, which doesn't make sense, because f-n actually functions as a proper rivalry, unlike roger/andy matches, lol. but still.

I'd have cried except I was at my dad's office for the day and stuck with the tv in the corner, it was heartbreaking! He beat Andy in 03 in the semis and 04 and 05 in the final, which was just as heartbreaking but I figured if Andy liked Roger, I could too.

I don't like Novak either so I have a slight problem. I miss Andy/Roger as the rivalry too, it was much more interesting because it didn't happen as much. Roger/Nadal is always the same match.

my sentiments exactly.

there's no shame to lose that kind of match. he was amazing throughout - his worrying moments were mostly in net/volley points, which in a couple occasions let him down. But in general, both him and rafa played such a high level, brilliant tennis.

there's no doubt in my mind that come next year Roger will be standing there in the final of Wimbledon again. as for this year, I'm hoping he'd win the olympic and US Open.

(I put my thoughts on the match here (http://hiro-chan.livejournal.com/126005.html) if you care and have time to read ;)).
