So a couple of nights ago I was out in garden in the dark, playing with the fluffy grey cat again, when loud snuffling started from the bushes at the end of the lawn. Went to investigate with a torch and it was a large hedgehog. Squeeed with glee at spotting a wild hedgehog up close. Told parents & got more squee.

Didn't occur to any of us that we'd recently sunk the half-barrel with the fish into the ground and that the water drains a few inches overnight, so anything that fell in wouldn't be able to get out. Not until just now when the parental went to top the water up and noticed something floating.

Don't even want to watch Andy anymore. :( Feels like we have bad karma for, oh I don't know, ever.

*wince* Yeah, that's why we ended up having to invest in pond netting. Three birds in three days after we filled the pond.

The worst thing is I read your post on that, felt sorry for the birds and then *didn't even think* to connect it to our barrel. The birds don't go near it and if a cat was dumb enough to fall in they'd get out easy. Knowing the hedgehog was there should've made me think "Wait, but-" and it didn't. :( Stupid.
