I'm hugely amused that most of my flist seems to be reading Deathly Hallows right now. All these people reading the same book at exactly the same time. People are weird.

That said, I'm coming up on halfway and I have one gripe:

SHE KILLED HEDWIG. *rage* I adore Hedwig. I found out back while reading GoF that Hedwig means 'hidden weapon' and all the talk of how clever she was had me hoping for more mention of her in DH. But NO. Less than a hundred pages and bam, dead. I AM VERY BITTER, ROWLING. BEWARE.

Also, either Voldemort is incompetent or Harry is the luckiest bastard alive, because he's certainly not being too smart right now.

The whole 'reveal' of Regulus' door had me going "...But I knew that." I keep blurring the boundaries between fic and canon. Though poor Lupin. He wasn't being quite that much of a git. All his best friends dead or evil and their son laying into him. Can't see Harry acting any better if he'd lost Hermione and Ron, really. Though there's over 300 pages to go; still might get to see that disproven/proven.

Speaking of fic, it's hard to shake off the feeling that I'm just reading an epic fic without the slash. It's- weird.

edit: HE'S USING DRACO'S WAND. I shouldn't find that as delightful as I do, really. Am slash-warped. I kept expecting Draco to turn around and help them out in the escape too. I kinda miss fanon!Draco.

I miss Fanon!Draco too. I keep expecting Draco to turn round and say something like pimp cane or prance about in leather pants.

Me too. I spent way too much of the book telling myself to be thankful for what good!Draco was there and that canonwise he's pretty much always been an uncool git. I just love fanon!Draco. He reminds me of all my favourite snarky bad guys, like Buffy's Spike and FVIII's Seifer. I'm a sucker for the snark.

He could have been such a fantastic character XD but what with the books and movies it seems he is the typical evil sub baddie coward. Ugh. And him being like Seifer would have been fantastic, Ron could have been zell (Except seifer/zell good, Ron/Draco..AH.)

You know, as long as you're mentioning rampant incompetency...

I like how you can apparently DODGE KILLING CURSES NOW. I thought that you couldn't, from earlier books? Then in HBP, I chalked it up to the Felix Fecidis (sp?) that the kids could dodge the curses, but in DH it seemed like AK's were flying everywhere and missing more than half the time! Come on...

The sheer number of killing curses bouncing around this book was bizarre. They lost a lot of impact just because someone seemed to be casting one every other page. I'd forgotten the not-dodgable fact though (I really haven't read the early books for too long) but that makes the overabundance of them even sillier.
