I don't really know what to say now I'm here...... I can't talk about OotP on Planet Helen because MSN've chosen now of all times to 'do maintenance' on posting messages. Joy. So I'm wandering around rather lost, not really knowing what to say. Guess I'll have Potter spoilers though so I'll retreat behind an LJ cut.

Reading Order of the Phoenix made me really sad. Don;t get me wrong; it's an excellent book and I laughed my ass off through two thirds of it - Fred and George causing mayhem was priceless - but... Sirius..... *why*?

Take an objective look. Harry's parents were killed before he even knew them. His dad was revealed as something of a "arrogant berk" in this book (though probably this was biased by Snape); Harry's been told he has to either kill Voldemort or be killed himself.... and to cap it all, he's lost Sirius too. I doubt you could do more damage to him if you walked up to poor Harry and bashed him repeatedly on the head with a sledgehammer. What's Rowling trying to do; turn Harry into a lunatic? Because I for one would probably have snapped by now in Harry's place and done something insane. Breaking into the Department of Mysteries and diving through that archway after Sirius comes to mind.

Rowling made a crack in a recent interview - How do we know Harry will survive Book 7? At the rate his relatives and close friends are dying, I'll be surprised if Harry WANTS to make it through book 7 alive. Sirius was his one chance of a normal family life after Voldemort is vanquished (because come on; it book 7 going to end with Voldemort conquering the world? methinks not; then again I thought she was going to kill Hagrid in OotP) - the chance of Sirius coming back as a ghost wasn't really something that appealed to me and certainly wouldn't make up for his death. But what my point really is, is that... why Sirius?

Harry has numerous close friends and respected mentors; the death of Dumbledore or Hagrid would have been just as painful yet leaving Harry with something of a family to return to in the form of Sirius. Aunt Petunia's sudden good will left me slightly bemused; after all these years the Dursleys are *not* going to become Harry's cherished family. Maybe Rowling is intending to kill the Boy Wizard off - certainly him ending up with his parents and Sirius in the mysterious place Nearly-Headless Nick referred to could be construed a relatively 'happy' ending. Because right now, even if Harry kills Voldemort...... he hasn't got a family. "No magic can bring back the dead" to quote Dumbledore who by the way, I was most displeased to see had been reduced to vague cameos in this book. He's the greatest wizard ever right? So his reasons for basically abandoning Harry this year left me a little bewildered. It seemed Sirius' death was just the result of a massive line of mistakes by various people that Dumbledore could have easily stopped with one simple action. OotP ended with me feeling that Sirius was killed more for the *sake* of killing him rather than any necessary *need* to kill him - Rowling wanted the impact and drama of killing Sirius yet she could just have easily have skipped it, or killed someone else or even slipped in one of her almost patented plot twists at the last second - what happened to Tonks shapeshifting abilities? Couldn't she have been masquerading as Sirius? Where was the classic Rowling happy turn of events that showed although things were bad, there was hope? The Order of the Phoenix members threatening the Dursleys to make them be nice at the end felt very hollow to me - Harry's lost the only three people he could truly call family; I doubt Aunt Petunia buying him extra chocolate cake will make up for sixteen years of abuse.

So after all this waiting, I'm left feeling sad. I've enjoyed my eight or nine hours immersed in Harry's world but I doubt I'll be able to watch the movie of the 'Prisoner of Azkaban' without sniffling, or even at all knowing what'll happen to everyone's favourite Padfoot. Although the person I feel most sorry for is Harry - the moment he gets the faintest hint of a break, down comes that sledgehammer. I'm starting to think the end of book seven will come as a relief - there's only so much Harry-bashing I can stand.

Now after that surprisingly lengthy unbrudening of my feelings, I'm headed bedwards. My parents have just got in and there's nothing I despise worse than the women when she's drunk and won't admit it. Night all.

We should start a campaign. 'No Body, Not Dead! Sirius Lives!'

*considers making the campaign's slogan "Show me the body!", but that might be a bit... odd... not to mention CLICHER THAN THE BIGGEST CLICHE EVER*

*giggles* Cliche can be fun! Although.... I'd rather see an alive and well Sirius than the body. ^_~ My english teacher said Harry Potter is full of cliche...... I asked her if she was reading the same series as me. o_O

Having just consulted the book itself.... when they first find the archway Luna says "There are people in there!!" Not ghosts. People. Somehow inside the archway. The spell that knocked Sirius backwards wasn't a killing spell right? Bellatrix only was happy because she's knocked him through the archway... *plots ways for Sirius to be alive* Methinks that archway will be turning up again before the finale of Book 7....... *crosses fingers*

He lives! Oh yes!
