clo_againWas trawling Elfwood and came across a cover design for LotR with Arwen on it. Someone asked why the artist had put Arwen on it since she only appeared about twice. The artist's reply was:
Trust me. Read the whole thing, including the appendix in the back of Rotk. Arwen is the motivation, the muse from which Aragorn draws his courage. She's the motivation for him even wanting Gondor, Arnor, and the kingship, but it's very subtle, you only feel the total impact in hindsight.
Was this person reading a different LotR to me?!!!! I thought his motivation for wanting Gondor was the fact he was Isildur's heir and needed to prove to himself and everyone that he could be worthy of the kingship...... Arwen never came into it. *IN FACT* was she ever there fighting? Did she ever do *anything* useful? Okay, my hatred for movie Arwen is slipping over into book-Arwen now but personally, for book Arwen to be effective she would have had to be included far more in the book and she certainly wasn't Aragorn's motivation. Was she? *growls and stomps off to get her LotR book* Bloody Peter Jackson making me hate Arwen.... Couldn't you have just kept Glorfindel dammit? *mourns for Glorfindel*
Okay. Brief rant of not much relevance to anything over. And I didn't even mention how much better than Arwen Eowyn is once....... oh damn I just did.
