I just spent three and a half hours going through one of Miko's essays with her. Considering English is her second language, she is awesome but there were just little things that didn't match up and some grammar things and rephrasing and oh wow, I feel like I just played ten rounds of chess after thinking that hard for that long. x_x You know, there are people on campus who charge £10 an essay for doing this and I bet they don't spend over three hours on each one.

... I'd get all the people with terrible grammar who don't know how to use paragraphs though and I don't think I could restrain myself from chopping them into tiny pieces. That or having a mental breakdown. I should probably stick with doing it for free for people who pretty much know what they're doing anyway.

Bed. No wait; washing up, then bed. Ngh. At least reading Shakespeare then analysing the finer points of English has finally got my brain in gear. Finally after eight or so months of being a bum.

Yay for your brain! Boo for 3 hours of English beta-ing though.

Definite yay! (though I just got up, so I'm all fuzz again. Sigh.) It was probably the longest non-stop beta I'd ever done. Lots of brain-ouch.

*woes* I get no tennis coverage at all. Not even of the AO I think, until the final.

Woe. Although, keep in mind this is probably the only decent coverage I get all year.

*is re-indoctrinating self to tennis slash in the ts archive*

*pets* Yeah, I think it evens out with us getting ten hours of Wimbledon a day in the summer. If we could find a country in the middle of everything that picked up everyone's coverage, it'd be awesome. :D

I need to go read Taming of the Shrew. *sighs* Rather be reading tennis slash.

I can remember once trying to help my Japanese friend with her Japanese Saturday school English homework. It was grammar. Shocking, but none of us could do it, as we'd never been taught the finer points of English grammar. In fact, we'd never been taught English grammar. And yet I can say Je ne parle pas francais. Tu ne parles pas francais. Nous ne parlons pas francais. etc etc etc. Stupid isn't it? (This is where I discover my French was wrong, but it's been a while...)

xx

To be honest, half of what I know of grammar I've learned from reading and the other half I make up as I go along. No one actually sits kids down and teaches it to them these days. (Hey, don't look at me to find anything wrong with the French. I spent French class doodling over my dictionary. ;) )
