Firstly, how unbearably annoying is Owen going to be next week, after admitting he loves someone and getting dumped? That of course, assumes they'll actually remember the meaning of consistency, given that we didn't get the fantastic fallout with Gwen-Owen-Diane scene I was *waiting* for the whole way through. When they were clearly struggling for material to fill the time, that's a little annoying. I'm all for gratuitous sex but I would've cheerfully traded the overdose of it in this episode for some more filling scenes.

BUT. I liked it, which after last week comes as a shock, I have to admit. Great storyline, some great character moments, I like Owen more, soley because he has beautiful shiny purple sheets and Rhys finally got some worthwhile screen time. Ish. So, specifics:

> Jack in the car. God. For the first time this series I felt for Jack (something other than annoyance). I still think whoever they have editing these episodes should be hung, drawn, quartered then sewn back together and put through it again for being so fucking useless at it but even the odd cuts back and too didn't ruin the moment. Which was creepy, jesus was it creepy. Definitely, definitely at the top of my list for best moments this week because him holding the guy's hand as he died, with that *look* that he *knows* and he *wants it*, god does he want it and yeah, you have to wonder if -- and how often -- Jack tried suicide before realising it didn't work and probably never would.

A moment of sheer brilliance for once. More like that and I'll be way more excited about tuning in every week.

> How amused am I that the Torchwood-verse now has its own Ace Rimmer? :D Totally hilarious. Though sadly she had to steal Colonel Danning's catchphrase from Wormhole X-treme - "It's what I do." I almost broke my face with the wince but, deliberate or not, the two allusions in one scene was pretty fun.

But (a big but) as much as I loved her going off into the great unknown and being all tough and awesome, I did feel it... I don't know, I felt all the way through that there was an overload of her and Owen doing pointless schmoopy stuff (dancing on the carpark? Yeah, nice one Owen. I'd probably have pushed you off the edge for the disappointment) so to have her disappear at the end felt like I'd wasted half the episode. I don't know, maybe I'm being very picky now but it felt somewhat clumsily handled, like they beat us over the head with it only to drop the stick and wander off at the end. Weird.

I like that it was the teenager who adapted best to the change, in the end. Because you just know that if you dropped a twenty-first century eighteen year old fifty years in the future, they'd be fitting in in no time. Whereas say, my parents... yeah, not so much.

I've already mentioned the editor but I feel he/she/it deserves another kick up the arse about here. The Jack-in-the-car scene felt stiff with the intercut sex scenes and there were times in the whole episode (that lightening fast cut to Toshiko and Jack in the Hub? What?) that it felt like scenes had been cut down to the bare minimum. Which is bizarre when they hadn't got enough plotline for fifty minutes. At one point an edit was so bad I actually went back a bit to see if my copy was jumping but no, as far as I can tell it was the actual editing. Can they just fire them already? Please?

> Nice catch-out for Gwen with Rhys there. Hope we get to see more of that next week and they don't just forget it.

Finally (because I really want to go to bed now), the trailer at the end? Mentioned the "thing in the dark" that Suzie told Jack about which had me going YES, FINALLY, YOU HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN IT!!! WORLDS OF AWESOME!!!eleventy-one!! I was so disappointed last week when there wasn't even a reference because it could be a proper arc, a proper-fucking-*storyline arc* which gets me way too excited. Not to mention next week we FINALLY get some aliens again. For a show meant to be investigating alien life, they sure do get sidetracked easily but all will be forgiven forever if this 'thing in the dark coming for Jack' plotline gets pulled off well.

Whee, something to look forward to on Torchwood! Good things.

Bed. o_o Now. Or I won't make my train tomorrow.

edit: Wait, the first part of Hogfather aired tonight? THE FIRST PART OF HOGFATHER AIRED TONIGHT?!!

Excuse me. I have to go HAVE SOME SERIOUS RAGE that I didn't know about this. I called the bloody parents at half seven to tell them to record Torchwood in case I missed it; if I could've told them to record Hogfather too and they haven't because I didn't...

*ominous pause of rage. RAGE I TELL YOU* If they haven't recorded it, I may cry. No, I will cry. Why does no one tell me these things?

Going to go to bed and sulk now. Major sulk. Yes.

...*pouts*

Well it was good (The Hogfather) A little confusing..but yeah it's probably up for download somewhere!

And at least you didn't finish watching Torchwood then end up with three million emails from one of your comms with everyone spazzing about Janto again XD I love them dearly but I think they stalk the comm.

Oh, god, I know. :( Poor Jack. You could just feel that he wanted to die so badly, he wanted death and he couldn't, and that he was hating every moment of it but he stayed anyway.

I so wanted Gwen to walk in on pilot and Owen because it would have been HILARIOUS.
