I love LiveJournalers.
On a totally unrelated note, is it just me or was the cheese toned down slightly for last night's episode of Robin Hood? I mean, there was dumb stuff sure but I wasn't wincing every two minutes and that's a step up.
helloAzeem Jack! (Or should it be 'Jacque'? *checks* Okay, so actually it's Djaq. Go figure.) Was there a Moor/Turk in the Robin Hood legends or are they walking the fine line of pissing off Kevin Costner... Hm, according to Wikipedia, Azeem himself was a rip-off of a character in Robin of Sherwood which I still haven't got around to watching. Hence how legends are created; plagiarism! I should try that excuse on my English tutors. ;-)
No matter, it's nice to have a MerryMan Woman with more character than a block of wood, not to mention everyone else got a little more characterisation this week. Even if Little John's was limited to hitting someone in amusing ways. Hey, I'll take it.
Also, Robin kissed Will. I sporfled. A *lot* (My default Prince of Thieves pairing was Robin/Will). Wasn't feeling the Robin/Much love quite so much this week though oddly, that made me *more* interested in it (hint of angst? I'm *there*). Him attempting to undermine Robin's plan was... intriguing and I seriously hope they're setting up a proper fight between them because tension within the outlaws could make for a nifty episode. Of course, they excused it as him thinking of his stomach but it could be read the other way too, that he's working on something of a subversive level.
... Wait, am I reading too much into the cheesy family drama? Yeah, probably. It's nice to theorise regardless.
Robin/Marian didn't piss me off this week for which I have huge, unmeasurable, unspeakable relief and yes, it really does deserve that many adjectives. I love that she finally got a chance to show the backbone that's made her the Nightwatchman for three years without Robin there to deflect the glory and I actually liked her reaction to him at the end, when she tells him to help Rowan win the silver arrow. It was tantamount to an order and it'll be interesting to see how long she can keep telling Robin to jump and having him ask "How high?" Of course in this case it was a good cause, which doesn't mean that it will be every time and--
Yes. Reading too much. Sorry.
Anyway, I just felt the overall cheese factor (with the notable exception of Robin setting fire to the mine because oh come on, you're telling me the guards wouldn't have had bows and arrows?) was toned down a little this week and it worked very much in the episode's favour.
Having said that, Robin is once again holding the Sheriff hostage at swordpoint next week in the preview clip. Oh well.

Date: 2006-11-06 11:44 am (UTC)Nope, there were no Saracens in the original legend. Then again, Robin also didn't go to the Crusades in the original legend /ends rant before it starts.
But I like Jak. I like Will's reaction to her as well. Much still rules all.
