Hee, Glasses of Doom.

New glasses. They look greener than they did in the shop, so I'm hoping my newfound fascination with the colour doesn't wear off anytime soon. As in oh, the next few years. At least all my clothes are pretty much green-compatible, as you can see, if my self-taking-picture skills aren't too wobbly.
You know, I went into this insisting I *was* going for black frames this time and nothing was going to change my mind. Do I *have* willpower?
Now because I'm a little bored, meme snitched from
australian_imp:
Photograph your desk and post it for all to see. Then tell us something interesting about some of the items on it.

For once my desk is tidy, so it's hard to find interesting stuff to say. Hm. The DVD on the left is the Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow special edition which I just got this morning. First Jude Law film that I've seen *ever* in which I didn't find him creepy (A Series of Unfortunate Events doesn't count because his silhouette looks like Roger Federer and that is, most definitely, creepy). That is also the Bluetooth KEYBOARD OF AWESOME which I wrote overly-fond posts about a few months back. (I still love it. It rules all. Mmmmmm.)
The model car sitting (it's actually blu-tacked down because it kept rolling) on my monitor base is a Hot Wheels Lotus Elise
kindoftrouble and
lossi sent me. The sheep postcard in the background is from
kindoftrouble too (Welsh + sheep = mockage. ;) ) The monitor itself has a Tweety-pie sticker from
scoobydumblonde in the bottom right corner and a kangaroo-Australia one in the top right from my flatmate K who just spent a year in Oz studying.
The day-by-day calendar on the right is a Shakespearian insults one I got for Christmas last year. Today's is from King Lear and is "...As a stranger to my heart and me/Hold thee from this for ever. The barbarous Scythian,/Or he that makes his generation messes/To gorge his appetite, shall to my bosom/Be as well neighboured, pitied and relieved,/As thou..."
(It kind of makes more sense when you read the footnote that explains 'messes' means 'makes meals of his offspring'. Sort of. I'm spending an ENTIRE UNIVERSITY YEAR studying this bloke starting in October. Wish me luck?)
Mmmm, the notebooks aren't so interesting, a mix of fic, uni work and new ones waiting to be used (I have an unhealthy obsession with buying new notebooks but they're so *pretty*.) Statue of funny Africanesque people is another Christmas present, a leftover from when my room was African themed a couple of years back. The candle I dribbled wax down the sides very carefully years ago and it's also somehow survived the room change. Most stuff didn't; Africa does not translate well to 'Parisian cafe'.
Yeah, I just spent far too much time talking about my desk. I love my desk. It does take up almost as much floor space as my bed and I've lost count of the times I've walked into the pointy corners in the dark but it's been painted on and carved on and written on and my life pretty much revolves around it.
*cough*Getoutmore*cough*. ;)
All those people who recced me fics a while back, I did read them all and I even wrote notes on some of them. :) I'm going to do a write-up reaction post because there was some good stuff and maybe stick a couple of my own recs in for things I've read before and that I've found in the last few weeks. I'm still working on that tennis slash rec post, which taunts me every time I load LJ. Got to do that before October.
Unrelated to anything at all note: realised today that my A-level English tutor of awesomeness was actually teaching us bits of Aristotle's Poetics (which I get to quote for my dissertation and that should not make me as happy as it does. OMGARISTOTLEYAY.) without telling us whose ideas they were. Sneaky rat. :-) I miss college.
