I'm bad, I prefer the Greek classics so when it comes to Roman/Greek mythology my mind is Zeus not Jupiter, Hera not Juno etc...
Pretty much. The Greeks pretty much saw it as a normal thing, especially for soldiers. Theban Band anyone? But yes, TOTAL subtext, although I was never a fan of the Aeneid.
Dude, the Greek classics are way better! We did The Odyssey in first year and all of second year was spent remarking on how crap The Aeneid was compared to it. However Pallas is still pretty and Aeneas/Pallas full of prettyangst. Mmmm.
*harts the Greeks* Aw, I miss Classics. The Greeks were awesome. I still don't like the Aeneid but it's always fun to do a course where you can write slash fiction and it counts as revision. *grins* Odysseus/Hermes is my random Odyssey OTP. So. Pretty.
<3333333 the Greeks. I got my mum's book of Greek myths (Adult version with lotsa intros on who wrote what and when) when I was about 10 and fell in love.
This is why I could not watch more than 10 minutes of Troy. I swear that film wanted to break and destroy my childhood.
They really were the coolest people. ^_^ I never really discovered them until I decided to do Classics and then wondered why years of svhool history lessons had never mentioned such awesome people.
We went to see that with my Classics tutor and spent the entire film going "That's wrong! That's TERRIBLE! Oh my god I can't believe they did that, what were they thinking?! Oh forgodssake, THEY WERE GAY, NOT COUSINS!"
I don't think the rest of the cinema liked us very much. ^_^
