Jan. 16th, 2006 07:13 pmWhen you've had a loooooong day? Play on Photoshop. Only now none of my journal colours quite match and I'm too tired to fiddle with them. Eh. Tomorrow.
When I say long day, I don't mean *bad*. Just one of those days that goes on and on and never seems to end. I got a great mark on the poetry test I did before Christmas though. :D I think I'm doomed to forever be that one mark off the highest level but considering the amount of work I put in, I'm glad to be anywhere *near* it. Essay back tomorrow and that's not really something I'd like to think about, so I'm not. My brain feels filled with fuzz so not-thinking isn't really all that hard. Possibly that's a bad thing since I'm supposed to have sent 1000-word-long creative writing piece in as of two hours ago but I think I'll have food and coffee and do the washing up I've been neglecting all day and see if I wake up enough to motivate myself.
Have to sign up for our rooms next year on Thursday. The freshers seem to have this idea that they want to stay in the flat or at least on the top floor but the Dragon who runs our college only lets four second/third years stay per flat... and there's already three of us second years planning to stay, plus a possible fourth if we can talk the Cypriots who don't speak to us into going away to ignore another lot of flatmates instead. Hence why we're planning to be there, outside the office, the second that she lets people start signing up. I like my room. I fought for it last year. Someone else can fight this year and if the freshers like it that much then they can move back in their third year when we're gone. Only fair.
The Post-it note idea? Is going to work if I remember to take it off when I don't mind being distracted. A just apologised when she came to see me and I had to reassure her several times that no, I wasn't busy, I'd just forgotten the Post-it. Ooops. At least she noticed it. Score!
Total zombie mode right now. Mmmm, sleep. I'd love a nap, but no. Food. Work. Dammit.
edit: Oh I just read the email from the Dragon and got a sudden sinking feeling. Our rooms are fine because we get to sign up a day before the freshers... but K in Australia? She has to wait until the Monday after and that's not good because without her, the freshers'll take the two other rooms. And K said specifically -- begged more like -- to stay with us. Ooooohhh. Oh this could be not fun, because we'll have to talk the freshers into not stealing her room. UNLESS I can sign K up same time as me, maybe pay her residence deposit if she can't get the money over here in time... I'm so glad we've already arranged to go see the Dragon tomorrow. My room *should* be okay but looks like I'll be fighting for K's.
Trust the Dragon to screw this up. In what way is it fair to make the overseas students get last pick of their rooms? What, she thinks they won't have any friends left to want to share with after being away for a year? Crikey.

Date: 2006-01-16 07:43 pm (UTC)Will get back to it when my week calms down in a few days. I think with my journal, I just grab whatever pictures fit but fitting pictures to a design seems trickier. :-) Not given up though.

Date: 2006-01-16 09:47 pm (UTC)We wanted to recreate the icon-sized border brush I used on this so we could get a similar effect on banners. I though it could be done with the eraser set to the spray-paint blob and used on the edges? it sort of worked. :)

Date: 2006-01-16 10:09 pm (UTC)Here is Photoshop. Or, at least my Photoshop. (This is also me trying to multitask, and chat, fic and Photoshop all at the same time. It doesn't work.) Er, I digress. Anyway, see that little square with the circle inside that bright red circle which I drew on? That creates a layer mask. Select the layer you want to erase part of, and then click that button, and a white square thing will come up next to the selected layer thumbnail. Also, the colour pallete thing will have a black square and a white one behind it (as outlined). Basically, select the brush you want using the brush tool, and then make sure the layer mask is selected (not the layer itself) and use it as a normal brush, drawing in the parts of the layer you want to erase. The parts which are masked out come up as black, as you can see on layer 16. And then the layer underneath it will show through.
My very quick tutorial on using layer masks. If you need more help, or want anything explained (because this probably doesn't make sense), then just ask.

Date: 2006-01-16 09:51 pm (UTC)And omg, him driving the golf buggy. That killed me. I bet he was inwardly thinking "Why can't these people drive?!?! I'm in hell!"

Date: 2006-01-16 09:57 pm (UTC)Wasn't it awesome?! It only took them a couple of weeks to have him driving. I'd bet on him thinking that too; they were completely appalling. (Though it reminded me of the episode in the last TG series, where they had to park their super cars? And they pushed the cars together so James had a smaller parking space? *giggles* So very evil.) He was cute in the golf buggy though. Just his size. ;)
