How did I forget how good Batman Begins is? Wow. I've even left the credits rolling just to hear the music, which is wonderful. Christian Bale may act like a plank of wood but hell, Batman is like a plank of wood a lot of the time, so it works and even whatshername from Dawson's Creek doesn't annoy me. Also, on-going love affair with Liam Neeson's voice. Mmmmmm. Vocal sex. My firm belief in Batman's superiority as a superhero remains untarnished and the 2008-sequel cannot come fast enough... though, oh lord, I'll be twenty two. Can a twenty two year old squee over superhero movies? Are we allowed?

Guess we'll find out in 2008. ;)

However watching it -- and seeing two guys playing at being Batman and Robin (more the camp TV-show versions than gothic Christian Bale style) on the Hamster's show last week -- has made me wonder why we don't actually have superheroes. I mean okay, Superman's an alien in spandex and Spiderman is a genetic freak and Wonder Woman, well, don't even get me started on her but *Batman*, Batman's just a guy with a lot of money. All the things he does, within reason, seem genuinely possible if someone with enough money came along and wanted to do it. Why's no bored billionaire -- and lets face it, there must be some out there right? -- ever dressed up in a cool outfit and gone to fight crime? I suppose it's because we don't have a Gotham as such, with a Joker and a Penguin and a Scarecrow running around concocting fiendishly diabolical plans but you think if we did, we'd have superheroes? Spiderman's set in New York (He is right? Did I imagine that?) and Superman in Metropolis which isn't exactly all that different from any other modern city and they have superheroes. I guess the question is do supervillains breed superheroes or vice versa?

Hmmmm. I should think of a way to work on that for my dissertation.

Despite my complete lack of being useful today, it's been a good day. I stopped by the porter's on an emergency trip to the shop (deodorant, I *knew* I'd forgotten something) this morning to see if he was there to give me my post and he actually was, so I got [livejournal.com profile] kindoftrouble's envelope. A minute later thought "Huh, wasn't [livejournal.com profile] scoobydumblonde's meant to be there too?" and stopped again on my way back to check and it was, they just hadn't written it down. Sigh. Got it though and spent the afternoon watching Hamster almost-drown and opening post. :) Though [livejournal.com profile] simplydelovely, the mental image of Andy Murray in a French Maid's Outfit WILL NOT GET OUT MY HEAD. ;D It's going to be *months* before I can watch him play without giggling again, oh dear. The tennis tour should be glad we don't run it. PLayers' dignity would probably not be foremost in our diabolical plans organisation. ;) Post really made my day though, so thank you everyone. *snuggles for everyone*

I'm thinking early night and getting up early tomorrow will make me accomplish more. I need to spend all day tomorrow watching Ghost in the Shell: SAC for a review and given that there's close to eleven hours of it? You may get some interesting posts tomorrow. 've missed anime though (Toonami, which used to be a good Sky channel with things like Justice League, X-men Evolution and such on it? Now shows endless Pokemon and Transformers or something of the sort. Where's all the *good* TV going?) Must remember to get Spirited Away on DVD next time I get some money. Irritating that I went shopping for on-sale DVDs twice the other week and never so much as *thought* to look for it. I need to write these things down, argh.

In news of woe, Lancaster internet refuses to work with Firefox. :( I haven't had the energy to beat it into submission yet but it's on the 'to-do' list. I really must *not* waste this week like I've wasted the rest of the holidays and last term. Think *useful*.
