TV Licence people? You are *morons*. You make me *not* want to buy a licence because you're so damn *stupid* and *selfish*. Did it ocur to you that thousands upon thousands of students need licences for only parts of the year? And did it ocur to you that your moronic ways of making it so horribly confusing to pay for things in pieces will get you more money from those very poor students? Of course it did. Because you're bastards. And you got three months of my money this summer that you shouldn't have had, exactly because you're so bloody *stupid*. Fortunately I'm now on to your petty little schemes and am going to make sure you don't steal my money again this year by actually *writing* your stupid letters to cancel things at the right times. *Letters*. In the age of *email* and instant communication, I should be able to instantly and easily cancel it when I need to but no, I have to write a *letter*. Justifying my reason for cancelling it. Which is just the most stupid, ignorant, backward process I've ever heard of. Not to mention how difficult it is to pay the goddamn thing in the first place.

Screw you for trying to steal my money. Fuckers.

Most sincerely not yours,

Clo

TV License people are just dumb. I tried to pay online last year and it didn't work. Stupid fucking thing. It's just completely ridiculous. And why do we need one anyway?

I just bought one from the post office for the whole year last year, so I didn't realise quite how stupid they are until I just looked at the website. It's insane. Especially since every student *has* to get one - for us that's like eight people to a flat, hundreds upon hundreds of flats *just* in my college. They're making a fortune out of us and it's really not fair. -_-

Yeah, I should have just done that, but no, I had to try the website first. It was a bad, bad plan, it's so stupid. Last year me and my friend put the tv in my room but both paid the license and she had a key, so it worked well. I think the government just want money from us... money that they use for the dumbest things ever. I think that if you're a student you should get a discount, it's only fair.

I didn't even realise I could've bought it off the website until someone told me a few weeks ago or I probably would've tried it that way too. I'm planning on just going to the post office in town tomorrow and setting it up again like that, 'cause at least then I have someone to ask when I inevitably get stuck with the forms. -_- And I *completely* agree with the discount; asking every student with a TV to pay full price is crazy, not to mention unfair. Though actually I'd settle for them just making it easier to pay monthly, because at least then we wouldn't end up paying over holidays and such.

what is a tv license?

In England, and... er, possible the rest of the UK too, you have to purchase a license to be able to watch TV legally. Otherwise you are breaking the law. It's really dumb.

You said it much simpler than me. ;-)

I think it's a British thing... We have five 'terrestrial' channels, consisting of BBC 1 & 2, iTV, Channel 4 and Five, which we technically don't have to pay for. Instead we have to buy an overall TV licence to legally watch TV and the money from that goes towards keeping said channels 'free'. (Least I think that's how it works). And then there are things like Sky and cable and freeview, which give you extra channels but, except for freeview, all cost money per month, on *top* of the general TV licence charge. Usually only one licence is needed for all the TVs in a house but because students have their own, personal leases on their rooms, we apparently count as 'individual houses' and have to buy our own for about the equivalent of $220 per year.

They are talking about getting rid of the licences completely though, which I'm all in favour of. Means I could buy a freeview box and have cheaper TV. How does it work over there? I'm sure someone explained to me once but I can't remember. Hhhhm.

I thought that the license only paid for BBC 1 and 2, and ITV, Channel 4 and Five were paid for by the adverts. At least, that's how I always understood it. I know there's something on Wikipedia about it, I explained it to someone else recently too!

*goes to look*

Okay, yes, the license goes to BBC - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_licence#United_Kingdom - which makes it even more stupid that we have to have one for ITV, Channel 4 and Five.

Has anyone else noticed that Britain is really weird?

Okay, that's just crazy. I have to put up with ITV's adverts during movies but I *still* have to spend a fortune on a licence to watch it? -_- I love that it was originally the equivalent of 50p though. How times change.

Oh yeah. Very very weird. ^__^

I hgave never paid for TV in my life, except for cable. And we have a sateillite.

Sky had some good stuff though. When I was in Italy, I saw Moya/Federer from Vienna from ages ago. It was my favorite match ever.

License?? So weird. I get free TV. Of course, I can't watch much, but still... and I have to pay for electricty so it's not really free, but license?? INSANE!! Your country is INSANE!!!

I want free TV! If I watch it now, I get guilt issues. And also if they catch you watching TV without a licence, they can fine you like £2000, which isn't reassuring. My country is indeed insane. -_-

What? They can fine you if you don't... oh my GOD. Your country is absolutely out of their minds! But hey, it's one way to earn money. *giggles*

Why do you think anyone's actually stupid enough to buy the damn thing? That £2000 is the only thing hanging over my head and making me think I need to renew my licence. *sighs* They have investigators who come round and check too, though we didn't see anyone last year.

They must be making a fortune off us. And the bloody government keeps complaining about money! Pfft.

Oh my lord! That's... *giggles* I'm so sorry. I shouldn't laugh but the idea that you need a license to watch TV? *falls over laughing*

They have to make a fortune,. but the government is stupid and therefore spends the money where it shouldn't and then complains about not having any money. *kicks Bush* My country knows alllllll about that.

It's horrendous. Not to mention they're making an absolute *fortune* off all the poor students they make buy them, even though we live in flats of eight and think we should really only have to buy one licence per flat, if they were being fair. They really haven't thought the whole process through, except for the part where they make lots of money. -_-
