I hate my Victorians seminar tutor. With a passion. She keeps setting us poems to analyse, saying "Prepare a reading of this" and going about form and concepts and features. I don't know if it's escaped her attention but I hate poetry. I've avoided it for years and quite frankly, my approach to it is usually to read it and declare it's either alright or crap and then move on. I probably have more of a clue how to 'prepare a reading' than say, a science student would but only a little.

God I hate this course. I jokingly offered to do [livejournal.com profile] wolves8's Film & Lit essays for her if she does my Victorians ones but it's looking more and more like a serious option all the time. Shame we've only got one Victorians essay and the rest is exam and a test in class about, you guessed it, poetry. I didn't expect to like everything we did in Victorians but I didn't expect to hate it all quite this much.

'Prepare a reading'. Yeah. Right. -_-

edit: I'm also getting pissed at Roger's website. I know Andy's constant updates about all kinds of random crap can get irritating, but at least we *know* how he's doing. I know people were getting irritated before the announcement about Paris because we just hadn't *heard* anything about how Roger was doing. Even if Roger himself doesn't know what's going on, the least the webmaster could do is stick a new note up every few days or so to let everyone know that there's still nothing definite. Even knowing there's *no* news is news. It also doesn't help that new updates replace the old one completely, unlike Andy's where they're all kept. Makes looking up dates and things that much more difficult.

Or maybe I'm just worried about Roger and taking it out on his website. Hhmm.

I'm also going to hit the next person who tells me Andy can do nothing but serve. Um, hello? Have you been watching him play tennis this year? Match against Lleyton at Cincy escape your notice?

This is really all displaced rage from my Victorians work. This is why I should not be made to read poetry.

edit: Also, ALSO, if I hear one more person compare tennis players to football players in the argument for having a shorter tennis season, I will not be responsible for what mass murder I commit. Football players play individual games, a few hours a day, not a week or two with matches every day or every other day. Tennis players occasionally even play *two* matches on the same day; like hell football players would do that.

I have lots of rage today. Huh.

*pets you cautiously*

Comparing tennis to other sports? Is crap. There is no other sports where the players work as hard or as often as tennis players. Football and I'm assuming you mean soccer ;-D players may have to travel 'round for their matches and whatnot, but they do not travel half as often as tennis players do. They may practice every day, but they don't play matches and it's a team sport, not an individual. And while tennis players do have support from their coaches/managers/trainers/etc., they don't have howevever many other guys there to take the load of winning/losing off their shoulders. Tennis players bear the brunt of their winning and losing and when they lose, it's not the "team's" fault, it's the players and there is no one in the world that gets more crap for losing a match than a tennis player. Unlike team sports, when a tennis player loses, no one blames it on the coach.

And again, I'm trying to agree with you and I get all aggravated and rambly. Sorry. :-)

Ugh, poetry. I share your hatred. And your approach - it's either decent or crap, now can I please have a novel? I avoided it as much as humanly possible while an undergrad.

Ahh, I hated all poetry until I met Blake. Now I hate all poetry bar Blake, Milton and Dante.

Victorian... heh, DO you get to study Blake? XD

I love 'preparing readings' because I never do, and either crap on about the feminist intent, the Freudian symbolism, the post-modern relevance or the biblical metaphors. Ahh, arts degrees. :/
