Oh this is not good.
Sep. 28th, 2005 10:51 pmI haven't turned my laptop on in something like two days, having rediscovered the joys of the main computer. Up 'till now, said laptop has only overheated after it's been on *all* day so when I turned it on around two hours ago, I figured it'd be fine to fic on while I watched Lost and such.
Yeah. Not so much. I either need to get it fixed -- which would be doable, if I could get in touch with the brother to check *if* the cover actually was for three years -- but that takes like four to six *weeks* and I'm going back to Lancaster in what, less than four days? It is physically impossible for me to exist there without a computer, especially in the first week where everything has to be signed up for and so on. I'll have probably one or two *long* essays to do within the next month and a half, not to mention I have to submit creative writing piece of 2,000+ words every two weeks. I cannot *exist* on library computers, soley because I would have to set up camp in the library for the next month and a half just to not fail my courses.
Not to mention I was actually considering with some seriousness doing NaNoWriMo this year. *sighs* The dumb laptop couldn't have started to break three months ago, when I had all the time in the world to sort it?
Other option, if the cover proves useless and I really cannot cope, is to buy a new laptop with my savings now instead of waiting for the end of next summer. This of course would have to be based on the assumption I'm going to get a good enough job next summer to pay for at least half of it, which is what I was *planning* on but I wasn't going to splash out on a new laptop until I knew. -_- Not to mention that would be my savings just *gone*, especially since I've been eating into them bit by bit this last summer. However it is an option, however unrealistic and I guess it is nice to know I have a backup plan if all else fails.
I'm going to go watch Lost and sulk now. I was hoping the damn thing would last until Christmas at least, because I cope being without it while I was home for Christmas. Maybe the solution is to say to hell with it, send it off and just come home to use this computer to write essays. As much as that would be a pain in the ass.
For godssake why can't they make laptops that last longer than two years? -_-
