An accidental click brought me across this. A brief overview can be found here and the actual site of these... people, in the loosest sense of the word, can be found here. Just because I had to prove to myself this thing existed to believe it.

It's people like that which make religion absolutely terrifying. Why would anyone, no matter what they believed, do something like that to a sixteen year old?

I am quite literally speechless.

Pretty terrifying innit?? Go watch the movie "But I'm a Cheerleader...". Utterly hilarious, until you realise that American religious zealots actually have these places...

I spent Monday learning counselling for parents whose children had just come out... strangely places like this are NOT recommended. In fact worldwide psychologists and psychiatrists have established that it is completely unethical to try and "turn someone straight" - not to mention that it doesn't work!

It's awful. I've never been happier to live in Britain, where I'm at least fairly sure there aren't places like this or at least only isolated cases if there are. I hope.

I couldn't believe *any* parent would look at a place like this and take it seriously, no matter how 'distressed' they are. Sending them to a real psychiatrist would probably be stressful enough for the kid, never mind... this.

Me too. People like this shouldn't have kids if this is what they do to them. -_-
