This has been a somewhat... bizarre day.
Feb. 17th, 2005 08:02 pmSo the parental got to Lancaster around half one, we had a coffee, packed enough stuff for me to survive the weekend - Ibuprofen had kicked in by then and I could barely feel my tooth at all, even though my face was still puffy. Almost got clamped in the car park but security guys are kind enough to leave little notes warning you a few hours before, so escaped that. Checked my post on an offchance before I left... and my Amazon stuff had arrived. Literally, overnight. The delivery must have cost them an absolute fortune. I really owe them an apology. So I have PLENTY of shiny books to read now. Yay! :D
Although re. above paragraph... I just checked my email and I have a grovelling email from Amazon telling me that my books - the books that are sitting right in front of me, complete and intact - are in the Preston DHL depot and I have to arrange a delivery time... and offering me a £3 gift certificate in compensation for the book - the one that again was in the box and is currently sitting right in front of me - being delayed.
Is anyone else confused here?!
Moving back to the trip home, got a phone call from aunt en route; my cousin who works in the dentists had begged on my behalf and if we got there around 4 he could see me today. Got there 4:15, got seen pretty quickly, face got numbed - Ibuprofen was wearing off around this point and it was ouch - then he called me back in, drilled out the filling and poked around VERY painfully at the tooth for a while - apparently he was cleaning out the nerve and DAMN it hurt - I made some quite pathetic 'ow' noises throughout - then he stuck what I assume is a temporary filling back in along with some paste to help get rid of the infection. Because that's apparently what it was, the nerve was dying due to the filling and it got infected, so I have lovely antibiotics to take for the next couple of weeks. Then I have to go back in July - JULY! The earliest they could fit me in! - to get it root canalled. It hurt for a while then more Ibuprofen - I'm turning into such a drug addict here - gave me enough energy to run around yelling at all the computers in the house because the Internet wasn't working and didn't look set to work anytime soon. Which as I've promised to post PD 4 tonight and I have an English presentation to research and write by Monday... made me a very unhappy person. Tried dad's laptop which is slower than the fucking Second Coming and crashed on me anyway, rang brother in Cardiff with pitiful cries for help, he recommended the Reset button on the back of the router... which appeared not to work. Howled abuse. Kicked a few things. Internet miraculously started working.
Don't ask me. I'm just grateful I don't have to spend a weekend without net access in addition to tooth pain. Fingers crossed it keeps working - will turn the world inside out to get PD 4 posted tonight if I have to.
I'm off to eat some food because I haven't eaten all day and my face is finally defrosted enough for me to not dribble. And that was probably TMI. Sorry. ;)
AND!! AND!! I get to watch the quarters and semis of the tennis in Rotterdam. Go teeth! Great timing there. ^__^
Back later. Mmmm... food...

Date: 2005-02-17 08:15 pm (UTC)Dentists can be cool - I complain at great length about mine but he did squeeze me in today, even though he hates squeezing people in. So, not all bad people. ^_^

Date: 2005-02-17 11:18 pm (UTC)Second off, Amazon seems to be demented. *nods* But hey, gift certificates are nice.
And finally, I hate your tennis watching ways. I get no tennis. :'(
Re: Okay...
Date: 2005-02-17 11:27 pm (UTC)Amazon... no words for how much Amazon has confused me lately. I think I'll email them with 'WTF?' tomorrow... though gift cetificates are indeed nice. :)
To be honest, I'd have rather skipped out on the toothache and had no tennis. I was surprised they were showing any of Rotterdam really since I don't think it's a huge tournament but I guess it's really close to us, so they have no excuse not to. It makes up for the unexpected dentist trip. A little. ^__~

Date: 2005-02-18 11:19 pm (UTC)No he won in two sets, but there was very little of the Federer magic working for him out there and if he'd played Andy or Marat or even Henman or Agassi like that he'd have been flattened. It's just always a surprise to see him play that 'badly'.
