Hewitt plotting rankings charge

Lleyton Hewitt hopes to use this week's Australian men's Hardcourts event in Adelaide to seize Andy Roddick's world number two ranking.

Hewitt is currrently ranked third behind Roddick and Roger Federer, but will move up if he reaches the semi-finals in Adelaide.

He would then find himself in the opposite half of the draw to Federer for the Australian Open, which starts in two weeks in Melbourne, setting up the possibility of a final showdown between the pair.

Hewitt has played in the Hopman Cup in Perth for the past three years but has returned to Adelaide to try and improve his ranking.

"For me to come back to Adelaide, it happened at the right time, and obviously if I can make it through to maybe the semis or finals I can grab the number two spot and that's important as well," he said.

Hewitt plays his first round match on Tuesday night.

Essay work is going spectaculary badly, only slightly less badly than yesterday. I still only have a vague idea of how I want to structure it. I'm going to have a nap then carry on as late as I can, considering I'm supposed to be going shopping tomorrow. I can shop half asleep right?

Don't even mention that I have Creative Writing to do by midnight Wednesday. I may have to kill you. -_-
