... I have no idea why that is stuck in my head.

A collection of random things, as I'm so fond of posting at 2am these days.

> Canada. To go or not to go? I think I can afford it. Just. It'll be close. As will whether or not I actually get on that plane next September. Am not deciding anything until I've talked to the study abroad woman later today. Will I regret it if I don't go? Probably. Will I regret it at some point if I do go? Probably. Will my bank account regret it either way? Definitely.

> Emergency call for those back home in Wales! *waves to [livejournal.com profile] squishy_monkey and [livejournal.com profile] dukedee. I need reminding of a few Welsh terms, since my Welsh dictionary is oh-so-helpfully on my bookshelf at home, and Welsh-English translators online are difficult to find. Gran and Grandad is Nain and Taid right - is that how you spell it? Cariad is an affectionate term meaning 'darling' or 'sweetheart' yes? How the hell do you spell 'bless' in Welsh? And I know 'Caer drws' is 'Shut the door' but how do you spell it and finally, how do you say 'Please'? (Is there even a Welsh word for please? ^__~) Oh and how do you spell 'thank you very much (I'm getting 'diolch un fawr' which looks wrong. Hhmm.) and 'Merry Christmas' (Nadolig Llawen or something like that right?)

Endless years of Welsh lessons and I still don't speak the damn language well enough to remember how to say please. -_-

> There was a 'fight' going on in the carpark outside a while ago. A guy was kicking the taxi and the guy's girlfriend seemed to be trying to stop the taxi driver attacking him. Flatmate down the hall rang security who seemed decidedly uninterested. *rolls eyes* Nobody got hit or anything though, so wasn't that exciting. Okay, that sounded awful. I didn't mean it's would've been more exciting to watch a fist fight. Really.

> I need to get more sleep so I can actually wake up during the day and not snooze through it. Which is why I'm now going to bed.

Good night... nos da! (I remember *some* Welsh then... however badly spelt it may be. ^__~)

EDIT: Alberta only needs a financial guarantee of £4,450 - I was working on the general Canadian guarantee of £6,608. Suddenly I can breathe again. ^__^

EDIT2: Though that was for a couple of years ago, so mustn't speak too soon. *touch wood*

Because Welsh is a pure language, and doesn't really come from Latin, Greek, etc I think it's pretty phonetic, so I'd say bless is bechod, and that looks about right too. Look in the dictionary and Cariad is the word for love, but has the affectionate meaning too. Isn't please "Os gwelwch yn dda"?. Nain, Taid and Nadolig Llawen are all right. I think it's "Diolch yn fawr" and you can stick a "iawn" on the end for even more emphasis. And never forget the singly most useful word in the language: Sbwriel.

Oh, mae bendigedig!

YAY! *hugs* I'm writing a Creative Writing story set in Wales and I wanted to actually use this Welsh I'm "supposed" to know. ;-)

Sbwriel! Damn good word. I've actually got a photo of you, me and Hill on my wall with a 'Wrecsam' rubbish bin in the background with 'Ysbwriel' painted on it. ^__^ Ah memories.

I should know what benigedig means and I can't remember. *shame*

*sigh of relief* I was close, I thought it meant 'very good'. Yay! Not completely Welsh-illiterate. Just mostly. ;-)
