1.Reply to
this post, and I will pick three of your icons.
2.Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3.Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4.This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee!
(Note: if you want to ask about any of my icons,
use my insane journal icons over here, because that's where they all are now.)
kindoftrouble asked about:

This icon was one of those 'see the picture, love the picture, icon the picture'. It's so old - must be almost three or more years now, my oldest tennis icon that I still use - that I can't remember making it, except I think the magazine it was in had printed little cartoon tennis balls across the picture and either cropping around them was a pain or I smudge-tooled one out. It's annoying that the original picture is buried somewhere on my other computer so I can't check. Smudge-tooling out a tennis ball might explain some of the glare-effect in the bottom right but that was also the grainy quality of the magazine scan. When I upped the contrast it gave the icon this natural texture that I still like three years later.
The quote - which reads
LAUGH like no one is watching - is a slightly-bastardized version of the quote
"Dance like nobody's watching. Love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening. Live like it's heaven on earth." which Googling suggests has been attributed to everyone and their aunt, so I'm just calling it an anonymous. It didn't take much thinking to match the quote to the icon. Andy looks so happy. There should be more icons of Andy looking happy, because it's really sweet.

This icon came about solely because I wanted to try that nifty light effect, like traffic and shop signs blurring past in the dark. I don't remember where the original picture came from - I think it was
Spaced, because I always kind of saw it as Tim peering through a keyhole at something, one of those vague
Spaced plot bunnies that I never did anything with but it could've been Simon Pegg in something else and I just liked the screencap. The idea that it looks sort of sneaky is also where the 'SECRETS' came from; it didn't look finished without a word and that fit. The tiny writing underneath is probably a song lyric but I've forgotten which one; it was mainly to underline the key word.
I'm sort of half-happy with it. The light effect didn't quite work and if I did it again I think I'd change the green at the bottom to yellow so there're less colours, and probably pick a different font. But I love the contrast on Simon's face. I might remake the whole icon without the light effect at some point because that contrast is so pretty.

From the most ancient icons to the newest. ^_^ This was another attempt at the light effect, though I desaturated all the light-effect textures before using them to avoid the rainbow colours again. I think it looks more like blurred car headlights without the colours, like it was meant to. The whole thing was made in a hurry because I really wanted some John Simm icons and I didn't have a huge choice of pictures to hand. This was from a magazine instead of a screencap but it was a pain in the ass to get small enough without losing the facial detail and I think I lost a lot of the pose in the cropping.
Rabbit in headlights was a desperate attempt to find any text that fit, because all that empty space the cropping left needed filling to make it less dull and it was rabbit in headlights was because... well, he has that look of a rabbit caught in headlights. Sort of. I'm still not entirely sure the whole icon works and I've got more pretty Simm pictures now, so there'll be other Simm icons. This one might just stay around to fill up the 300 icons spaces I'll never actually need on IJ.

Also,
kindoftrouble! Did you know the Black Books shop-front
is an actual bookshop? Can we maybe take a Black Books side trip to see it in June? ^____^
~
Now I'm going to
not watch the
Black Books commentaries yet again (I keep getting sidetracked and missing bits, so it's not entirely like I'm listening to them over and over again. Uh. Really.) Instead I'm going to go tidy the leaning tower of
death clean washing that's been piling up on my bed for days.
And maybe at the same time listen to the
Shaun of the Dead cast commentary, which is in no way like listening to the Black Books again. They don't even mention it. Much. Ahem.
