Have just been chased from room by an invasion of wasps. Three when I left and another outside the window. I squished one because it was between me and the laptop then beat a hasty retreat with said laptop and left dad to cope with them.

And I have to go to work today. If the wasps are this bad here, I'm mortally afraid of what they'll be like in work with sweets and ice-cream and sugar everywhere.

Dad's just come down and announced there were *four* in there.

Don't wanna go in to work today *cries*

You do know that most of those 'wasps' are actually hoverflies, don't you? It's them that are having something of a population explosion lately, not wasps. Moreover, hoverflies, despite looking like wasps, are totally harmless. The simplest way to tell is to check if it can suspend itself and hover motionless in midair while flying - if it can, it's not a wasp.
And no, I'm not some weird insect enthusiast. It was all on the news about a month ago. Wah!

*grins* Yep I heard that. But trust me, these were wasps. Hover flies are slightly smaller and have slightly different stripes; these were big sons-of-bi*ches.

Plus if it buzzes, it's in my room and it's annoying me in my opinion that gives me every right to squish it. Outside fine; I'm in their territory but if they venture into my room... beware.
