NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO WWWWWWHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY SHOOOOOOOOWWWWWW. WHY DO YOU MAKE ME CRY DAMN YOUS WHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYY.

Even though I know it was because they probably can't afford to pay Santiago Cabrera to be a background one-line character in every single episode, and even though I know he's fucking Lancelot so of-fucking-course he's coming back (THOUGH HOW, OH MY GOD HOW WILL THEY PULL THIS OFF WHEN IT ISN'T Buffy AND THEY DON'T HAVE WILLOW. ALTHOUGH THEY DO HAVE MERLIN WHICH IS ACTUALLY PRETTY FUCKING GOOD IN THE MAGIC DEPARTMENT), and even though it was sign-posted all the way through the episode, yet still managed to be UNBELIEVABLY FUCKING SHOCKING, OH MY GOD...

...I still cried and I'm still sad, and Gwen's reaction still broke my heart. Oh Gwen, oh Gwen who was so amazing this episode (QUEEN GUINEVERE FORESHADOWED FTW \o/ ), realising he did it because he promised her and oh. <3 Oh Merlin. Since when did you stop being light Saturday night entertainment and suddenly turn into this utterly spectacular emotionally-engaging television?

But, oh. Lancelot was always, aways my favourite when I was growing up (I have heard many bad things since about the character of Lancelot but he started as my favourite and remains my favourite, no matter how hilariously endearingly ridiculously adorable this show seems to want to make Gwaine.) If we believe the show-makers, there's only one more series after this. How are they going to do the Gwen/Lancelot now? What if he only comes back in visions, like Freya did in ep 3.12? (and wow, it's a bit shocking to realise that Merlin could do its own Conversations with Dead People episode easily after only three point two thirteen-ep series). WHAT IF HE ONLY EVER COMES BACK FOR ONE OR TWO MORE EPISODES? I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS. I HAVE CONFLICT.

(I can see why they did it though, absolutely, and I admire the way they set it up with such skill. Epic ftw there show. Epic.)

All in all, how bloody good was that episode? Wow. Just wow, Merlin.

I'm thinking it may turn out to be the same sort of thing that happened to Arthur with the unicorn; you are so brave for giving up your life that you're not really actually dead, hello, be alive, it was just about proving yourself! That sort of thing.

I'm not convinced yet but I'd love that to be the case *wistful* I think he has to come back, because I can't imagine they won't at least touch on the Gwen/Lancelot/Arthur fiasco before the show ends, even if there is only one more series. I'm trying to lean very hard on the they-can't-keep-Santiago-hovering-pointlessly-as-a-background-character-all-the-time reasoning.

(I hope they don't handwave it but they dedicate a proper entire episode to Merlin bringing him back from the realms of the dead, a la Orpheus and Eurydice type epic quest. Though preferably without the tragic ending.)
