To acknowledge the sudden flood of activity on my flist this morning, thought I'd join in the yay-LJ-used-to-be-this-busy-for-me joy with the fact that I saw David Tennant/Catherine Tate in Much Ado About Nothing last night and they were brilliant and funny and fabulous, and this morning I feel like I have a sad Tennant hangover with the sheer mournfulness of the knowledge that I won't get to see it again. If I could request a Groundhog Day scenario to happen over about three hours of last night, that'd be perfect thanks.

Seriously. Seriously. I thought the first half struggled a bit to get going in the beginning (with the notable exception of Tennant's fabulous entrance) but they lit up the second half like anything. There're a couple of scenes where Tennant/Tate were nothing short of mesmerizing (the scene where she asks him to fight Claudio is my favourite in the play and was my absolute favourite in this; it was done beautifully. The emotion in it was heartwrenchingly perfect after all the joking of earlier. As always though, I wish that promised sword fight actually happened but as my English tutor pointed out: this is a comedy, not a tragedy, even if it walks the fine line of it for much of the second half and killing Claudio - I can't comprehend the kind of play it'd be if he killed Benedick - is definitely approaching Romeo and Juliet levels for a tale of woe.). And they were obviously having such a brilliant time pratting about on stage for the comedy but the seriousface moments, oh my god. I'd love to see these two do a Shakespearean tragedy, other than the fact that a. they might break me into pieces and b. they already have; it's called Doctor Who series four.

Oh my god, I want to see this play again. I cannot afford to but I want to go hunting up any leftover tickets. Are there even any leftover tickets? We were in the fifth row and it was perfect (third row would've been absolutely perfect but I won't complain) but I don't care, I'll sit at the back or on the ceiling or anywhere. I wish they sold it on DVD.

We didn't stalk the stage door last night but we know what time about it finishes and we're going back another night early to wait, maybe Monday depending on how much it rains at Wimbledon or maybe Thurs or Fri. I bought a copy of the script and I so badly want Tennant/Tate to sign it. It'll join my Gaiman/Pratchett signed Good Omens as my most treasured possession if they do.

...This play you guys. It fills my life with joy just for existing. Okay, so as a Shakespeare play, I think Propeller does that better (then again, comparing anyone doing Shakespeare to Propeller is cruel, because in The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night, Propeller put on two of the best plays I've ever seen period but as a comparison). This play was all about Tennant and Tate being Tennant and Tate rather than doing anything spectacular with the Shakespeare aspect but considering that 99% of the audience probably bought their tickets to see Tennant and Tate regardless of what lines they were saying, I'm thinking it was the right decision. It was a good production of Much Ado, don't get me wrong but I don't think it had the same broad appeal as Propeller manage (my dad loved Propeller's Twelfth Night; he would've fallen asleep last night).

I must not go to the Box Office when we o back and ask if they have any tickets left. For any part of the run. I must not. I'm unemployed as of the end of June; I cannot afford it.

(I'm so tempted. I would give up food for it. I can exist on the joy of Tennant alone.)

In other news of my life, I'm currently (obviously) in London. On Thursday I was in Cumbria and on Tuesday I was in Edinburgh. This coming Tuesday I will be in Cardiff and on Wednesday, back in London. It's reached the point where I'm confused when I wake up in the mornings. It's nice to have Wimbledon and Cardiff and more Wimbledon to look forward to, especially knowing that after this week I go back to work for a week and then I'm back to being poor and unemployed which sucks but at least this week is Epic. And I have certainly enough to catch up writing-wise and books-and-DVDs-I've-bought-wise (Psych season five arrived before I left Cumbria WITH NO CUSTOMS CHARGES \o/) that July and August should still be made of fun and hopefully sooner rather than later I'll decide what I actually want to do with my life and someone will give me a job doing it.

Hah.

In conclusion, go and read this delightful Erik/Charles fic that [livejournal.com profile] rionaleonhart linked to the other day. It's done so well and is kind of heartbreaking and also kind of wonderful and made me smile. Mmmmm.

I am convinced the night I go one or both of them will be ill. CONVINCED.

(PS. I will be in Cardiff from 13/07/2011 to 16/07/2011 - let me know if that matches up with any of your dates.)

Hey, I'm so sorry this is so last minute (Wimbledon ate my life and also, I'm hopeless >_<) but I've been looking into trains to try and get myself get myself back to Cardiff in an affordable way and I can't. ;_; Even the cheap hotel I stay in has doubled in price, I think because it's July. I was looking forward to geeking out with you in Cardiff and now I'm bummed. :(

Cardiff is a pretty easy city to find your way in though, with everything in walking distance; if you want help with anything Cardiff-y, just ask. And next time you're here, hopefully I'll actually be living there and you can have my couch.

Also also, that lottery thing for DTen and CTate? Brilliant. I tried it on a Monday and there were about 40 people there for 20 tickets, so excellent odds. Apparently Saturdays are more crazy, so I'd rec doing it on a weekday, and if you want to stalk DTen/CTate any time, the play ends at about 10:10pm and the stage door is down the lane by the side of the theatre and around the back (you'll see the barriers). You can see the theatre as you walk out of Leicester Square underground station. I haven't heard any reports of them being ill yet though. :D

Have such an awesome time! Anything you need, just yell. And if I can make it even to London, I'll let you know!
