This is a slightly useless post to be making when I still have to talk about visiting Rome and bits and pieces of random ficlets I keep meaning to post and epic squee over Gaiman's Doctor Who that I should be flailing all over everyone before I get too distracted by other shiny things, but since I'm still only about halfway along my vast to-do list for today (and it's now 10pm and I have work tomorrow, oh dear), have this delightful Ben Mansfield interview instead (no spoilers for Primeval series five WHICH BY THE WAY STARTS ON TUESDAY OH MY GOD I AM TOO EXCITED TO FORM WORDS ABOUT THIS but minor spoilers if you haven't seen series four yet (...why on earth would you not have seen it yet? Watch repeat it all the time and the dvds are out! Go and watch this ridiculously delightful show, I command it!). But anyway:
Okay. Despite the ambiguous ending to the last episode of series 4 and Ben Mansfield's deliberate teasing here, I do not think they're going to kill him off (is this still a question by the way? Do people know something I don't? I'm pretty sure he's not confirmed dead; the internet would've drowned in tears of fangirls - and a certain kind of fanboy - by now).
For a start, there are rumours regarding the development of his relationship with Jess this season (which I am all for; the two of them are so adorable together, it's almost painful to watch them not do anything about it) and how that's going to progress. While I can see this show killing him off before the payoff of all the effort they've put in to the slow burn of the Becker/Jess relationship (because this show is an evil evil heartbreaker that delights in killing off main cast members as if it's playing Whack-a-Mole with actors) I think there's more to get out of the relationship and that's the way it's being played on the show.
And besides, the Primeval writers love heartbreak. It'd be much more traumatic to kill Becker or Jess off in series 6 when they've had the chance to get their thing on properly.*
*DEAR PRIMEVAL WRITERS, PRETEND I DID NOT SAY THIS. DON'T KILL BECKER. EVER. EXCEPT MAYBE IN SERIES 234 WHEN THEY'RE ALL NINETY ANYWAY.
Second, he's used in a lot of the promotional material for series five. Like a lot. He was the only cast member to appear in the first teaser trailer on the Watch channel and there's a fuckton of interviews with him floating around (here, have this short but delightful one). Of course this could all be a huge psych-out and the production team could be LOLing themselves silly at making us think he's fine when he's not but...it seems more effort than such a thing merits. I think they're being a bit teasingly ambiguous, knowing that the last episode ended on a cliffhanger for Becker and they want as many people as possible to tune in on Tuesday to find out what happens to him, but all the teasing seems very lighthearted for the death of a main character.
He's in the official series 5 trailer. No, really. Check out 0.58 in the guy on the left with the gun and the Forearms. Look familiar? It looks to me like they were very very careful not to give anyone a definite look at him, to keep the rumours circulating no doubt, but they dropped in the clue there for anyone who was looking. It could not be Becker; it's dark and frenetic, and the quality isn't exactly HD. But it damn well looks like him or his twin brother (Becker!clone? Double Captain Pretty? MAKE IT HAPPEN, WRITERS. PLEASE?)
Of course, this is Primeval. Anything could happen on Tuesday, up to and including an army of clones composed of deceased past characters marching on Dublin (oh dear god please FOLLOW UP ON THE CLONING!STEPHEN RUMOURS FROM SERIES TWO/THREE YOU BASTARDS) but I'm putting my money on Becker to make it.
After all, he is extremely pretty. Killing that off would be a crime.
I need Captain Pretty icons. My only Primeval one is pretty drastically out of date.

In news of real life, it's very possible that this is my last full week in my current job. I'm trying not to think about it because this job has been both a. very well paid, b. easy and c. full of lovely co-workers. It's not the most intellectually challenging job in the world but it's comfortable and often interesting, and I really don't mind going into work in the morning. I'm very unlikely to ever have a job this easy and yet well-paid again. I'll miss everyone there terribly when it's over.
And I'm really not looking forward to being back on the job market again because I have no idea where to go from here. At all.

zat(sorry, that was Stargate's don't-kill-people laser guns; not that Primeval 'borrowed' anything *cough*) electric stun-gunned to find Jess cuddling him in tears and has an emotionally-retarded-character flailing panic, because that'd be really cute.Or alternatively, I'll take Connor doing the cuddling. Because that'd be hilarious.
