Oct. 23rd, 2008 11:53 pmSo I tried everything. A new driver, system restore, lots of swearing and finally, after all my brother's other suggestions failed, going in search of the option to reset it all back to factory settings. Which apparently I needed a backup for so I just spent an hour burning a factory default backup to three DVDs. Only for them not to work.
Then I check Help for the hundreth time in despair, to find "Windows Complete PC Restore:
Restores the contents of your hard disk from a backup... Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore is not included with Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, or Windows Vista Home Premium."
Tell me that doesn't say "Vista does not let you restore to factory settings". Tell me it doesn't say my £500+ laptop cannot do something my £25 crappy mobile phone from six years ago can do. Seriously. Tell me that, because I'm seething right now and Harry I is about to go through the nearest window for being a craptastic laptop with a bulls**t operating system.
But in short, everything else having apparently failed, Harry I is going back to PC World tomorrow to, hopefully, be replaced by Harry II. In theory. If he is also broken? I'm going to say screw the whole idea and do NaNo with a notebook and pen which is of course, no use to anyone but I am that annoyed that I'd do it. Just to give the finger to laptops everywhere.
Seriously. Seething. Argh.
