Okay, so it wasn't Jessie's best performance. I'll grant that. However, I did understand every word she said. Sam? Not so much. I was really trying to listen and still struggling.
Yet the panel said the complete opposite. Are they listening to different people than me? It really pisses me off.
Everyone has had difficult songs this week, except Niamh who had a beautiful one but managed to make it difficult. I'm really not that impressed. It's kind of a mediocre week and it's sad when these are meant to be the final six and they're meant to be the best six of the best twelve. I think the lack of Sarah definitely shows these week; she was always a bright point regardless of what kind of Saturday everyone else had.
Kind of meh this week. Sigh.
I've forgotten what I meant to say about Doctor Who, other than Jenny (would it be Genny?) was the most annoying thing since Mary-Sues were invented. I was all for her regenerating at the end - I was yelling for her to - because a) I loved the way David Tennant played the Doctor's reaction to his 'daughter' and b) if she regenerated, that meant we got to keep the idea of a character linked to the Doctor but played by someone less freaking irritating. Also, it made sense to have her regenerate. It did not make sense to have her come back to life from a gunshot wound to the chest. At all. Once again the Doctor Who writers take an interesting idea and ruin it by paying no attention to the details or the sense. God, I would love to see a fan-written season of 'Who. If they picked the right fans - and it's not like there aren't enough superb 'Who ficcers to choose from; just check my memories - it would be a thing of beauty. And it would pwn anything written by the current team of 'Who writers.
Also, terraforming? I buy. Totally. I do not buy that it's kick-started by breaking a glass globe with gasses in it. They had all those consoles. All the possibilities for a scientific explanation or at least an explanation that makes sense, but no. You'd be ripped a new one for doing that in fic; I am not amused that supposed-professionals get away with being lazy, when there is no excuse. It would've been so easy to have it make sense. Bah.
Martha's reaction to Fish Boy sinking was pathetic, really. She didn't even try to reach for him after and her screaming for help was just- god. Sympathy I do not have. Atreyu's reaction to his horse sinking in The Neverending Story? Was heartbreaking. This? Was barely sad and only that because Fish Boy, one of the most likable characters in this episode perhaps because he didn't have to speak any of the dialogue written by Those People, died before the end. I can't even summon up the feeling to make scathing remarks about the whole scene anymore. Bah.
But I like that Donna once again was shown as having sense (though not that the war had only been running for seven days, because that was pointless and they also neglected to explain why there was an old guy there. Why would they replicate-bio-engineer-whatever someone as an old man? I'm sorry, did that part make sense but I'd blinked and missed it? Also, was there a reason for the war to have only been running for seven days? Really? Just- bizarre.) I kinda loved the mouse, just because it was so random and when I get round to it, I will have it on an icon. And I liked that it was another episode away from Earth, because I really like the move they've made of looking away from Earth more. It feels more Whoish.
But I really am see-sawing on this episode. There were moments I enjoyed very much, mostly ones with Donna and the Doctor's conversations. There were also moments that appallingly lacked any sense in the writing or the acting. Moreso than last week, there was the frustrating feeling that it could've been something so much better, if someone who knew how to write had looked over the script before filming. Oh and they hadn't cast someone who looks and acts like avacuous bimbo... okay, that's a bit harsh character from an awful teen movie as a main character.
There are the giant wasps next week. Even for Agatha Christie, I don't know if I can watch. I run screaming from wasps of the ordinary size, Satanistic insectoid bastards that they are. Ack. But at least there is no Martha, which means more glorious Tate-and-Doctor. I may have to subject myself to the Giant Insectiod Bastards.
Generally, this week has been disappointing for TV. And I was so tired and pissy last night that I completely forgot Trick or Treat. I've remembered in time to catch the repeat on E4 - AND NEXT WEEK IS DAVID TENNANT OMG OMG OMG - but I'm annoyed that I forgot something I love because I was in a bad mood. Sigh.
Also, Derren? I will not love you anymore if you kill that kitten. Okay, I know you won't but even suggesting it- I adore you but THE KITTEN. WHY THE KITTEN? WHY?
It's even a particularly adorable kitten. Argh. Why.
