and promptly resigned. Because honestly, I can't think of any sensible reasoning behind writing out both Marian and Djaq in the same episode; with their only established female characters gone and Robin set for a bout of supreme emo next series, it's not likely to be high on my list of things to watch. And instead of vengeance for Marian's (ultimately pointless) death, we got minutes of soppy scenes and flashbacks (which my dad fast-forwarded through. For all he isn't known for his sentimental side, I would've probably done it myself). What happened to going after Gisborne? What happened to a penultimate fight between him and Robin? What happened to them fighting each other to a standstill only for the Sheriff to stumble in, causing both of them to go after him in fits of grief only for him to escape, setting up Gisborne to go rogue in the next series, hated by emo!Robin and a bitter Sheriff and getting to wear even more bondagesque outfits in his self-loathing driven rampages against Robin (who'll have turned to Much for bitter guilt-ridden comfort/sex) and the Sheriff alike--

-- sorry. My subconscious decided that nothing could be worse than that finale and it should be blocked out by increasingly outrageous alternate plotlines. Though I'm sure the BBC will provide those all by itself; I'll take bets now on a new love interest for Robin showing up in the first three episodes of the third series. Anyone?

Overall, I was rather bemused by the whole thing. Have to love them all siding with poor Much against Robin's denial that he treats him like a servant though; if it was fanfic, I'd say that combined with Marian was all a set-up for the third series ending in a glorious splurge of Robin/Much smut, but as this is the BBC and as the traditions of Robin Hood say nothing about Robin Hood and Merry Boyfriend (regardless of the the whole group-of-men-in-the-woods-together thing which, honestly, all sounds highly suspicious to me) I'll be expecting the new girl - and the ensuing angst about 'betraying' Marian - to be along presently.

I might be at the point where enough is enough and I'll skip the next series. Especially since they killed Carter; I liked him enough to keep watching if they'd had him take Will/Djaq's place. Unless they bring Djaq and Will back (which surely they'll have to?) I can't think of much to draw me back.

Except zombie!Marian. That I'd watch just for the lulz.

I'm rather more looking forward to the new series of Primeval, now officially starting on January 12th. If nothing else, there's a sabre-toothed tiger on the trailers, one of if not *the* favourite of mine among prehistoric critters.

Jeremy the Smilodon who I bought in the Natural History Museum is looking forward to it; his wide-eyed innocent look is a little disconcerting. Possibly naming something with teeth that big after Clarkson was a mistake.

I have to work three days in a row now. Even though they're my last, I'm still not looking forward to it because of the sheer boredom that was last Sunday. At least I'll get to complain about not getting paid since the week before Christmas. Again. I'm so glad I don't have rent deadlines right now.

I'm not the biggest fan of Marion, I'll admit that freely, but killing her screws up the whole mythology! I thought they were at least trying to stay a little loyal to the story. Gah.

I was reading a review before that said Marian needs to be there for the show to work, because Robin needs to have some sort of light at the end of the tunnel other than the vague idea of saving England. Him running around Nottingham aimlessly saving random peasants every week will get dull very quickly - and I agree; Marian gave his hero-complex a focus. I like Jonas Armstrong but he's not an interesting enough Robin for me to watch the show for him and his ego alone.

It's crazy. Even the most spectacular retcon ever couldn't bring her back believably now. I don't know what they were thinking.

Given that they've so far had Robin in the Holy Land, no Little John dunking him into the water, no Friar Tuck, Will Scarlett not being his cousin and probably a fair few things I've forgotten, I think expecting them to stick with the legend at any point is unlikely.

It's not so much just sticking with the legend even, it's just that it makes no sense, storywise. The only thing Robin's fighting for now is revenge - which I can't see be interesting week after week in a 7pm family show - and whatever happy ending he gets will be tainted. This is a show aimed at *kids*; they want the happy ending. Dammit, I wanted the happy ending.

I'm really more bemused than anything. I just can't see where they think they're going with this now.
