Her: So if you can come in tomorrow-
Me: Come in to-?
Her: The job centre.
Me: Job centre, okay.
This is the gist of the conversation I had in the job centre today:
Me: I'm meant to be having an interview at 4pm, about a job?
Desk-woman: Let me check. *blank* No sorry.
Me: ...Really? On the phone she said job centre.
Desk-woman: Sorry. We have no employers interviewing today.
Me: *mournful* I did ask her and she definitely said-
Desk-woman: -_- No. Sorry.
Me: ...I'd be more surprised if this was the first time this had happened.
This is the gist of the message on my answering machine when I got home an hour later:
Woman: Hi! It's Jill from *name of job agency*, we spoke earlier about the interview on Friday but we already seem to have you booked in today at 4. Give us a call as soon as poss to sort it out. Bye!
The conclusion of this story involves me calling them back, speaking to the same fast-speaking woman as yesterday (instead of the lovely one from today who actually seemed competent. *wistful*) and confirming that yes, I went to the wrong place and yes, I still want the interview and will come in on Friday. It also involves me feeling like an idiot even though I can't work out how such an apparently obvious confirmation - to me - of the interview taking place in the *job centre* could have meant something entirely different to her.
So my note to people out there looking for a job? Clarify dates, times and *places*. Then double-clarify them. Especially if you're speaking to one of the hugely annoying people who talk far too fast.
I am so pissed off at my utter waste of a day. Argh. The job doesn't even sound at all interesting.
