I was willing to watch this blow over. I was willing to let you talk me into renewing my paid account when it runs out. I really was. But talking to the press before the -- countless -- outraged and confused users? Talking to the press and making more of an ass of yourself?

Good job LJ. No, great job. That is, if you wanted to make me seriously consider what a move to Journalfen or GreatestJournal would entail and if it would be too much effort. Right now, it's looking like it'd be worth all the effort in the world to get away from your asshattery.

Jesus. Just what do LJ/6A think they're trying to achieve?

What gets me most is they didn't look at the journals they deleted. they just deleted them! Morons. I've also been wondering where a better place to move would be. 'Cause LJ's pretty much wanked themselves out of my support.

Exactly! They've deleted actual rape and incest survivor journals but reports of actually pedophilic journals to them in the past have been met with "Sorry, we can't do anything." I don't understand what logic they were trying to apply, if any.

I have a fondness for Journalfen because of f_w but the servers have been taking a beating just today, so I can't see how they'd cope with a mass exodus to there. It'd be that or GreatestJournal though. At least there're plenty of options.

*grins* I used to say 'Jesus on a pogo stick!" but christ on a cracker rolls off the tongue easier. Plus there was a really awesome icon around with it at some point and I guess it kinda stuck. :)

Exactly. I get their approach to the incest and the rape and the 'beating people up' interests, I really do. It's not just that they're deleting all our slash and fic. They're actually deleting things outside of fandom that are making the world a better place. It's... it makes no sense at all, because just taking a second to look at the things they were deleting would've saved them from all this crazy.

Definitely. I'm either 'clo' or 'original_clo' everywhere, so at least that's pretty easy. ^_^

*nods* If they'd have just stuck to fandom and the real criminals, even that I think I would've been fine with. 'Cause I can see where fandom might cross that line. But they just randomly, it seems, deleted 500 journals, because "it didn't fit with what they want".

I think people are overreacting a little in this situation (in a few cases, overreacting a lot)

I can understand being upset about losing your journal, but have you seen some of the stuff that's been taken down? We might have paid journals, but at the end of the day, it's LJ's site.

And unless they're gassing people, it's not Nazi Germany. It's a site that's dealing with unsavoury sujects (to them) by getting rid of them. Incest and rape tend not to be viewed that well by society in general *shrug*

Oh I couldn't care less about the pron (although I did realise last night that Holly's Brownieverse qualifies on the underage level and that's probably higher rated than countless of the fics caught up in this. It wasn't all just porn.)

What bothers me is not only that LJ deleted the actual survivor journals and groups but they did it with no warning, with conflicting reports as to why, against the ToS and then failed to provide an explanation quickly in the face of overwhelming demand. Yes it's LJ's site. My accomodation belongs to the university; I equally pay them for a service and they can't decide to kick me out one day when I haven't broken their stated ToS, simply because "they've decided to get rid of everyone they don't like". They especially can't kick me out with prior warning.

I just feel this flashed up warning signs over LJ's respect for its users; people would've totally been on LJ's side over this if they'd been consulted or offered quicker apologies where mistakes were made. Slash and rps isn't understood by a lot of people either. If LJ feel comfortable militantly policing their community over this, will they single out other interests in future? It's likely the reaction from the thousands of upset people will make them think twice about that but if we hadn't reacted or hadn't reacted so dramatically? I honestly think we'd have been letting them set a precedent to do this again in future, over things that may not be so understandably wrong as incest etc.
