I'm always amazed at how hilariously cruel this song is. It's good therapy.

Fly-by post to ask about people's opinions on canon. I know Doctor Who has the craziest canon ever, what with all the differing books and audio stuff and spin-offs, but for shows of the less insane kind, what do people consider canon? Just the stuff that is actually *said* or *seen* on the show itself, stuff said in official interviews by actors and writers, stuff on official websites and so on?

Because Primeval has a whole bunch of stuff on the website that hasn't come up yet in the show (to be fair, six episodes is nothing in exposition terms) and I'm pretty much considering it canon until someone on the show says otherwise. If it's on the official website, then there's a good chance it'll show up eventually on the show itself and in the meantime we may as well use it in fic etc. because there's a better chance of that turning out to be 'show-canon' than stuff we randomly make up. And i hate coming up with my own reasons only to have them proven wrong every other episode.

If that made any sense. Hm. What do people think?

I think it almost depends on the fandom itself. If there is one. ;-) But canon is generally stuff that's been said or seen on the show, or heavily implied -- including spoilers, stuff that's meant to happen, etc. In other words, if it's on an official website for the show? It's canon. If it's in any way official? (ie from the author, writer, director, producer, actors/actresses, etc.) It should be consider canon.

So, uhm. Yes. That's canon. *shakes head* sorry for the long winded explanation. I think I've missed talking to you. :-D

Yeah, that's the way I see it. If the writers/official people consider it canon, then surely that's the same as putting it into the show itself? And if they're nice enough to put backstory and more info up to explain things, then why shouldn't we use it?

:) That's okay; I want opinions. ^_^ I know! I've been trying to catch up on Facebook and LJ before I go to bed but I'm so behind. >_< I can't wait to have finished everything.

If they've put it up, it should be used. Well, as long as they don't mind/don't freak out over fanfic/fan-made stuff. ;-)

*grin* You've probably missed a LOT. But dissertation should come first! Sadly. ;-)

I'm websites yes, especially when its something like TW where it's done deliberately, interviews no. I also sometimes don't count novels based around a show, unless they're episode adaptations.
