AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHOMGILOVETHISSHOW. :D

Firstly, the Sheriff is gay. Beyond a doubt now. No seriously, don't argue with me, he's gay. He paints his nails, he calls women lepers (okay, so he's gay AND misogynistic), he knew how soft his pretty alchemist boy's hands were and he takes great dlight in fondling and hanging all over Guy. Gay as a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide.
I've read complaints that this episode killed the Robin/Much 'ship. Um. Have they been watching the same series I have? *Robin* has been killing the Robin/Much 'ship, piece by piece and this lovely, lovely episode with Much's little love story could be taken in a whole variety of shiny ways. Rebellion against Robin's attitude to him, the thing that makes Robin realise he's been missing out, Much's lack of ability to tell Eve he doesn't swing that way, his own way of getting her to be on their side (he did give her a rather ambiguous promise of when he'd see her again) though that is pushing the line of the sweetness that is Much more than a little. *Nothing* kills a 'ship people, not even significant others of the opposite gender becoming canon. It just makes ficcing more interesting. Who the hell wants to follow a 'ship where everything is easy? This, this was just *fodder*. Not to mention the inclusion of Marian in the whole thing ramps up the intrigue factor because is Eve (I refuse to comment on the name. Just-- don't) Much's Marian? Honestly, this episode was about as fantastic from a slasher's point of view as a Robin/Much onscreen kiss. That is, if you like the angst and oh how I do. Mmmm, tasty tasty angst.
I said "Oh Much" so often during this episode. The Sheriff doing the whole "Horse Senator" scene broke me and I hid behind a pillow for most of it. Asshole, thy name is Robin for putting Much in that position. He damn well better have said sorry to Much offscreen.
Speaking of his Lord Idiotness*, don't think he did anything of remarkably stupidity this episode because I don't remember yelling at the screen all that much. In fact, he seemed to be settling rather comfortably into his Robin Hood persona, using it to comvince Lambert, blowing up the cave (HE HAD TO WAIT FOR BLOODY GISBORNE TO SHOW UP! Men!) and his little look at Djaq taking the ledger -- which I was YELLING for because it's a plotline of sheer beauty and fun and made Djaq MUCH MORE INTERESTING, yeses it did -- was awesome in it's possiblities for interpretation. It's been suggested he planned the whole thing, the distraction of Much (which I'm leaning toward and oh, Robin, will you never stop using Much for your own ends? There's a whole nifty fic in the idea that he turns himself inside out to help the rest of the world but his own best friend gets forgotten. Now I want to write that. Dammit.) but I could see it the other way too, that he just saw it and figured hey, Djaq's on our side and it could come in handy. Anyway, it raises the most interesting to-be-continued plotline so far and I love it. I love that they're showing perfect Djaq's flaws, that there's no one in this series who's above being given that dubious edge of selfishness.
Except Much and even he used his temporary wealth to get some kissage. Okay, so maybe he didn't mean it like that but there's a fic in it. You know there is. Don't look at me that way.
Much the whore. Hee. That's a whole new pretty can of worms. A very implausible one but a clever plot could make it work.
Have I mentioned that I love this series? Because I do. It just gets better (as my dad said last night, there wasn't much else *for* it to do but if I don't think about the first few episodes, then they weren't as bad as they actually were. Sssshhh.)
I had Marian love for -- well, for maybe the first time all series. She's smart and tricksy but this I think was the first time she saw the consequences to other people when her own overconfidence comes back to bite her ("no one's had their tongue cut out because of me" remember?). And it seemed to me that Robin knew that and that hug was the first scene between them where I've really, really *got* it. Him hanging off the side of her house last week was close but this, this hug was *it*, it's why in the end, I will always be happy to be a Robin/Marian shipper underneath. It worked, totally. Wonderful.
She also had a kickass costume this week. *harts on her pretty dress*
John's back to monosyllables. Not amused. At all. Gggrr.
Guy's getting more interesting by the minute isn't he? He epitomised that thing Robin was harping on about last week, how choices are what define you (now I think about it, didn't they steal that from Batman Begins?. He could have chosen to ally himself closer to the side of right fairly easily this week, Marian handed it to him all wrapped up in a pretty bow and yet the Sheriff drooling down his neck was all it took to change his mind. Someone said that he's weak and I agree; he agreed with the Sheriff because he's more afraid of what the Sheriff can do to him than Marian. His gradual shift toward following Marian away from the Dark Side was well and truly halted this week.
And boy did she make that clear. He lost a lot of influence over her in that one decision and, honestly, I think this marks the beginning of her first, very definite shift in affections to Robin -- up until now she's been playing it cool for the benefit of everyone but this week she saw what Guy's capable of and she ran to Robin for her comfort. I love that.
*I love and adore Robin, I really do. I just also happen to think he's an idiot. ;) The two are not mutually exclusive.
I'll probably have more thoughts when I get round to rewatching it but that's all I can think of now. Mmmm. Much to ponder.
More later, when I can breathe again.

Date: 2006-12-05 03:53 pm (UTC)Because I don't think anything could have rocked more than Much ignoring Robin's orders and not telling Eve what Robin wanted her to hear.
You're right, Guisborne gets more and more interesting, because he did seem to feel guilty about what happened to Lambert, and annoyed that the Sheriff was cutting him out. If he ever gets a brain of his own, it'll be a lovely three sided chess match with him v the Sheriff v Robin.
The only thing I find a bit head-deskingly irritating is that the writing for Robin is so uneven, he makes for a very hard character to love or even sympathise. Although I do love him and Djaq conspiring over the ledger. Even if only bad will come of it
if the writers remember it exists. I mean, imagine if Will finds out ...Fiona
