Mmmm, just finished Eragon to a vague sense of disappointment. Lack of depth, lack of originality (though come on, everyone steals from LotR so he can't be blamed for that so much. The fact I was thinking "Pern?" everytime he said 'Dragon Rider' and describing the hatching method was a little harder to ignore. Found it more amusing that he'd named the mentor guy after the fantastic but vaguely disturbing fantasy artist Brom though) and really, as absolutely cool as some of the places and characters were, they didn't seem to get utilised enough. Maybe it's just because I spent far too long reading up on structure at the start of this term but the 'convenient plot devices' to get them moving again everytime they stalled started to grate. I wanted this book to be good dammit, I've waited long enough to read it. Instead it was sort of... mediocre. Worth reading if you've got nothing better to do but forgettable. :( So, so disappointing. Still, there's a lot of potential for it to get better. Maybe if I can pick the next one up cheap like I did this one then I'll check it out over the summer.

Right now though I should be re-reading Water Babies. >_< I haven't done any work so far and I'm starting to twitch. And I need to walk up and buy train tickets. *sighs* Happiness.

I wanted so much to like that book, but couldn't even finish it. Christopher Paolini seems to be the victim of an overbearing editor/publishing company.
