Meant to be writing poetry right now, oh my god. I so cannot write poetry. o_O I don't even know where to *start*.

Though watching Ocean's Eleven, playing on MSN and defiantly ignoring my 9am deaadline is... probably not the best place.

*pokes you* Not to distract you more, but go look at my banner attempts!!

Then you can go write poetry. :-)

Will they tell me how to arrange syllables into metre? I'm about to beat my head against the desk; what kind of dumb course assumes you can write poetry just because you can write prose? Sigh. Will go look though. :)

Thank you oh so much. :) I'd rather not.

Uhm... I don't think they'll help with that. But are they forcing you to write the flowery, rhyming crap? Or like poetry that just flows?

Anything at all. We got told to go away and write a poem to submit. :-/ I've honestly never written poetry, so it's like... being asked to speak Italian when you only speak Spanish. Utterly baffled.

Except there are a lot of similar words. ;-)

Write a poem about Roger & Andy. Only, without writing a story, use just the imagery.

Soft touch over velvet skin, warming the night...

That sort of thing. :-)

Exactly. I can write okay; I can put words together in a sentence, Italians could probably even basically understand it but that wouldn't make it fluent and doesn't make it poetry. ;-)

... You may have just given me the first thing I've been able to think of all night that I even remotely want to write a poem about. Okay, wow.

Now I just need to finish reading up on how to organise rhythym and metre and then I'll give it a go. :) Thank you!

*grin* I love poetry, I used to love to write it, but I don't have the feel anymore -- and all of my poetry is depressing anymore.

But I'm glad I could help. :-) Always when you write poetry, write what you enjoy. And like what you're writing about or it won't work.

It's always been one of those things I've kept a wary distance from, partly because I don't understand it and partly because I love prose more than anything. :) Writing something by the rhythm of syllables! Baffling. We got told that our tutor doesn't want to read about our souls or our deep emotions which sort of writes off that route. *sighs* My friend suggested I write poems about fish all term, out of a lack of anything else.

Andy and Roger sound better. :) Though argh, stupid timing and beat. :-/ It can't help that I'm musically inept for this, even with Andy/Roger to lean on.

Poetry is more about feeling than anything. Just capture the feeling of, say one of your Roger/Andy fics. It doesn't have to rhyme. It doesn't have to necessarily make sense. Which is the cool thing about poetry.

A good idea though is pick a song you like and write to the rhythm and/or beat of that.

All I'm feeling now is frustration. -_- It's too structured. Just... argh. I'm going to throw the book across the room any minute now.

That's good, it gives me the excuse to go away and listen for stresses in song lyrics, which is much easier than trying to read them from a book. *sighs*

*grin* Poetry is not fun to write if you don't enjoy it.

*g*

And I'll have a handful more distractions if you'd be willing to check out banners for me? I'll have 'em in a new post in about five minutes...

Poetry is a scary thing...and you're talking to someone who likes writing it.

The thing with fiction is, at some point you start to feel like you might know what you're doing. Poetry, not so much. Something might sound absolutely DREADFUL but work better than anything else you can try. And it's really hard to get the hang of. At least, for me. I dunno. I might just be bad at what I do.

I've always liked writing poetry, but it has to be something I want to write about. And if you dictate a meter or a rhyme scheme to me, then you're screwed. It has to be free verse.

That being said, I hope you find something to write about before 9 am your time ... which is 1 am my time, which is in like 26 minutes. So good luck!
