Smoke me a kipper....
Mar. 3rd, 2003 07:27 pmI have no idea where that came from. It isn't even quoted properly. Is it? I haven't seen Ace Rimmer for about four years so I've completely forgotten. I should look it up but there's a disturbing smell of peach soap nearby that is making my eyes water. What relevance that has to anything I have no idea but I'm sure I could come up with something.
My cat is sleeping on the back of the sofa and if I still had the digital camera I'd take a photo and upload it, but I handed it back in Media today. I ran the batteries out over the weekend anyway and I didn't have a charger but nevermind, it was fun. I think I'm doing surprisingly well in Media, although I have work to do for Thursday. Meh. Oh I had my college report and I got a D for Classics, B for English, B for Media and C for Psychology which is cool. I know I can do better in Classics but I spaced out during the last two tests so I got D's. *shrugs* *Every* tutor seems to have this idea in their head that I'm one of the best students and should be getting A's and B''s and I haven't got a clue why because I don't think I've done anything to make them think that. But it'd be nice to get all C's and above, especially since I think my brother got a D in one subject he did. My aim in life is to do better than my brother (hence why I *have* to pass my driving test first time since he swore I wouldn't be able to) and so far I'm not doing too bad. Although my plan has always been to do English at university, but the way I'm hating english at the moment is putting me off slightly. Still, it's the book I hate and the teachers. I loved it when we had Martin, so hopefully it wouldn't be too bad at degree level. Plus we may be getting to do some creative writing next week, not a lot, just the beginning of a story, but still it's better than nothing.
It's weird - ever since I was about ten, eleven, I've wanted to write books. People have been telling me for years it'd be better to be a journalist first but I don't *want* to be a journalist, I want to be an *author*. They don't see the difference but to me the two things are miles apart. Although I'd love to write for a science fiction/fantasy orientated magazine like SFX. But jobs like that are as much a matter of luck as being an author I guess. Hhmmm.
I'm reading a fantastic book, 'The Smoke Jumper' by Nicholas Evans and I can't put it down. I loved The Horse Whisperer and The Loop and I've been meaning to get round to this one for about six months and when I found it by chance in the library today I thought "Sod it" and started reading, although I've got about four books upstairs waiting for me to read. Nicohlas Evans is an incredible writer - he has a knack of leading you on and making you believe something utterly, then the next chapter suddenly dropping the bomshell that he meant something entirely different and you can't be frustrated because the evidence for the plot twist was all there if you'd just thought that he may have meant something else. It's incredible. I want to be able to write like that. I can just see him sitting there with a little smirk thinking "This is going to annoy them" and it does! But it's so good I can't complain.
The Simarillion is still waiting for me and Christine swears it's easier the second time round so I have something to do in the easter holidays. Read the Simarillion twice. -_- Although me and Christine were already talking about the Valenquenta earlier so I already know some of it. Melkor was Sauron's boss - I was amazed when I found that out. Fun. I should read it for Lamp of the Valar but I'm already overdosed on British mythology for Myth, I doubt I could cope with Middle-earth history at the same time.
PAID ACCOUNT! *bounces again* But although I want to make a pretty layout, (1) I don't know how and (2) I haven't got time to do it till Friday because we have the day off college. Maybe Thursday night... no Buffy + Angel. Friday then. Would any lovely kind person help me out? *big hopeful smile*
One final note, no actually two. The name Connor is following me around. A year ago, when it first came up in Angel I thought "What kind of name is that?!!!" but now it's in the Smoke Jumper too and I've heard it a few times lately and by now I'm starting to think it's a pretty cool name. Irish names usually are. Which brings me to my second point of saying hi to Charly who's over here visiting us at the moment. *waves* Hi Irish Leprechaun! Or would you be the Welsh Warbler again because you're back here?
Right, I'm off to do random catch up stuff, read more of my book and wait for the deliciously slashy Smallville. I need more slashy icons. You can have too many slashy icons.
Love, peace and jellybabies! Hugs to everyone who isn't happy at the moment! *hugs everyone on her friends list*

rainisnice was right about the hug molesting... I need an icon of that. And that's reminded me of my slashy Red Dwarf icon too, so I'm going to use that. ^-^
