clo_again: (out of my mind)

After everything, I got to bed around 5:00am this morning. This was no problem; I was thinking of going into town today but it wasn't urgent, I wasn't going over to [livejournal.com profile] rainy_roz's until later. I could sleep in. All was good in the sleep-fuzzy student world of Clo.

Until [livejournal.com profile] rainy_roz rang my mobile at 10:40am. No one ever rings my mobile that early you see; in university I have the room phone and here, I of course have the house phone. My sleep-fuddled brain interpreted it as my alarm going off... so I hit the mute button and ignored it. Sorry [livejournal.com profile] rainy_roz. A minute later, the house phone went but at this point I was asleep again and by the time it woke me up, I heard the answer machine cut off and thought 'fuck that'. And went back to sleep. Again. The ever-persistent [livejournal.com profile] rainy_roz then texted me but that had no chance of being heard, as quiet as my phone is. Blissful sleep reigned once more and all was good.

Until the phone went again, about twenty minutes later. I actually staggered downstairs for this one, only to find it was someone for dad who'd disappeared to play golf. Went back to bed. Phone rang again but I was wise to its tricks by now and ignored it. Rang again, swore at it and pulled a pillow over my head. And finally... it rang AGAIN and I leapt out of bed swearing and ran downstairs only to pick it up just as they hung up. Unbelievably, every time the phone went this morning it was someone different. I think the world just decided I wasn't going to be allowed to sleep in this morning. Damn them!

At university, no one ever rings me before 11:30am and even mid-afternoon, the first thing [livejournal.com profile] wolves8 says when I pick up the phone is "I'm sorry, I didn't wake you did I?" Hello, student! This means I live days that last from about 1pm until 4-5am. Ring me at 2am, I will answer the phone. Ring me at 10am... you'll just get an earful of swearing and dial tone. If you're lucky.

So yeah, I'm kinda sleepy right now. -_- I miss Lancaster.

In other tales of the unexpected...

Fathers have an irrational hatred of squirrels, a fact which was made clear when we acquired two friendly visitors of the grey and fluffy kind a few months ago. I think men feel threatened by the cute and fluffiness, but my father will deny this emphatically, stating that the 'rats' just take all the nuts we put out for the birds. Which is a complete lie; yes, they take a few but then I was always under the impression that putting food out in your garden was *intended* to attract wildlife. It is quite amusing to see him push a sleepy Casper outside, pointing him towards the squirrel and ordering "Get it!!" Because Casper has enough trouble with rodents that can't run up vertical brickwork like it's horizontal; he hasn't got a chance in hell of catching a squirrel. Dad's campaign to rid our lives of the 'rats' has progressed to the point where he's put the bird feeder on the very end of the thinnest branch away from the fence so the squirrels can't get it.

Unfortunately for him... they still can.

Meet Nemesis. So named for the fact that his simple existence drives my father crazy. Isn't he cute?

He's also kinda flexible. I cannot express how much giggled when I saw him casually ruining Dad's carefully laid plan.

Well I think he's gorgeous.

Mission accomplished - and enraged father successfully avoided - Nemesis strolls casually away home to Mrs Nemesis.

Father made an incoherent sound of rage when I showed him the pictures just now. Squirrel 1, Man 0.

Okay, gotta get dressed, wash hair, maybe hang up some of my Leaning Tower of Clothes... nah... and catch up with comments. Going to [livejournal.com profile] rainy_roz's for the night, so I'm not sure how much I'll get done for tomorrow night but I'll try. Still want to finish Underneath by Friday.

Now that was a long and rambling post... during which I didn't even mention tennis. o_O I wonder if I'm feeling okay?
