Did you know that at Easter in Cyprus, they burn stuffed effigies meant to represent Judas? (It's the Cyprian Easter tonight and I've just been chatting to one of my Cyprian flatmates.) I found that fascinating, that over here we burn the stuffed 'guys' in November to represent Guy Fawkes, and at a completely different time and with a different meaning, Cypriots do exactly the same thing.
Do any other cultures burn 'guys' or scarecrows for other reasons? It seems such a bizarre thing to do and yet there's more than one country that does it for completely different reasons. *ponders* So, 'fess up. Who on my f-list burns 'people' during the year?
