Am back. Probably not with avengence, but am back. Miss me? ^__~ Don't answer that.
So have had fun and happy weekend in Lake District and Lancaster - have pretty photos to upload later or whenever my brother shows me how to link the camera to the computer. Plenty of fun mountains and lakes though if you're not as mountain-obsessed as I am you may find them dull. I love mountains. Best scenery ever.
Well, moving away from that, what did we do? Not much. Went shopping in Kendal on the way up, bought some fun pictures, got the mother some walking boots. Stayed in Grasmere in the Lake District Friday night in a gorgeous little hotel/inn sort of place with the whole oak-beams-very-rural theme going for it. Bought gingerbread (which is FANTASTIC; go to Grasmere just for the gingerbread. Seriously.), saw Wordsworth's grave which probably would have held more impact for me if I'd actually read much of his poetry (and I an English student! Much shame on my part) then drove down to Lancaster for the second night. For those of you who don't know I'm planning on going to university at Lancaster so this was really just to see the city and find out what it was like. 'Twas nice, had some fun shops, great layout, some wonderful restaurants.... one of which I found especially amusing. It was called "Crow's" which I, with my current 'Good Omens' obsession read as "Crowley's". Sniggered a bit at my own obsession then dismissed it. Until, walking past it in the evening to go and ask if they were booked up or not, I glanced through the window and saw a mural of two skeletons toasting each other over a dinner table. The sign outside had two cartoon crows with a city (apparently London; you can see Big Ben) that seemed to be on fire in the background. In light of my thinking of this as "Crowley's" restaurant, I found it all highly amusing. Until.... Good Omens obscure reference here... during the book Crowley is listening to a Queen song which mentions "Moet et Chandon", (a type of champagne I think it is) and he hears it as 'Moey and Chandon'. Talking to the women at the entrance, I happened to glance through into the restaurant - and saw a framed poster for "Moet et Chandon" which at first glance I would have *sworn* read 'Moey and Chandon'.
So, more than a little spooked by my own fan-girliness leaping up and smacking me in the face so to speak, I still would have given my left arm - hell, my right one too - to eat there. Alas it was booked up so we went somewhere else, but when I go to Lancaster University rest assured the first thing I do will be to eat at Crow's. Because just..... sometimes when you least expect it literary stuff leaps up at you from real life.
So ate at this great little Italian instead then spent the rest of the night complaining to our hotel managers about the wedding celebrations going on in the dining hall which were *seriously* making the floor of our room quake. Didn't get anywhere so we're going to try complaining to the people we booked the holiday through. But all in all I enjoyed the whole weekend. Bought green sunglasses for no apparent logical reason and wore them all Saturday and Sunday. Just because. ^-^
And y'know, thanks to
cat_o_ninetails and
icefalcon I want to write more Good Omens fic. I know I have an English essay and Media research to do for tomorrow but for now..... I want more Crowley/Aziraphale. Because exams. Pfft. Can't compare to wing-smut. ;-)
Maybe photos later. Love, peace and jelly babies,
Clo
P.S. I definitely need a 'bouncy' icon. Or something happy at least. Though at least this fits the Good-Omens-obsessive part of this post.
